well, don't feel too badly. the only veggie I've been able to get down this entire pregnancy (I'm 37+ weeks) is corn. and broccoli/cheese the other day. as my husband pointed out - broccoli and cheese is better than just cheese.

as far as fruit, I DEFINITELY don't get 5-6 servings a day..that's insane! I've been really sick though. I found that the V8 fusion juice was helpful to sneak servings in.

We have a magic bullet so we can do basic shakes and smoothies but not a juicer. Any recommendations on juicers?

I kept some low sodium V-8 at my desk for the days when I knew I wouldn't get enough veggies. I don't mind the taste of it at all so it was easy to get one of those in.

All these ideas sound great! I tend to eat my fruits and veggies raw due to convenience. I work in the community m-f 8-5 so I have to pack a lunch. I live the idea of smoothies and shakes for breakfast, I need ideas for easy snacks and meals for the day time.

I agree that smoothies are the best way. You can add yogurt to the smoothie too, to get more calcium

Green smoothies!! I put spinach in mine along with a banana and some strawberries and it added up to 3 or 4 servings right there!

I had a really hard time managing 5-6 veggie servings a day in early pregnancy when almost all vegetables grossed me out. I survived by chugging V-8.

Do you tend to eat your veggies raw or cooked? I sometimes make pasta dishes with lots of veggies - zucchini, bell peppers, spinach, etc. I'll also make pizza and load it with veggies. I snack on fruit during the day.

I'm in the midst of making a serious effort to get in plenty of veggies and fruit every day and it does gets hard sometimes.

But I'm eating some with every meal - I've been having steamed veggies at breakfast, sometimes on their own or sometimes mixed in an omelet, eating salad whenever I can for lunch or dinner, and also roasting a lot of veggies - just chop everything the same (roughly) size, coat with a little bit of olive oil or coconut oil (amazing with sweet potatoes!), salt, and pepper, and plop in the oven (350 or 400) for 20-30 minutes.

Fruit is easy for me - I could eat fruit all day every day, but I'm trying to only do 2 servings a day so I will eat more vegetables.

For both, I try to do all the prep work I can as soon as I get home from the grocery store -- being able to grab some already sliced strawberries, or already chopped up carrots makes it easier.

Applesauce and clementines. I make sure to get the no sugar added applesauce and add cinnamon to it. Will she let you count juice? If not for the sugary juices from stores, maybe you could buy an inexpensive juicer? Also, Hubs loves fruit smoothies so I'll make them with a ton of fruit and ice, and just a few scoops of low carb ice cream, which is great for dairy anyways.

I try to eat fruit and veggies at every meal.. ie berries with breakfast or an omelet with veggies, lunch and dinner are usually a combo of protein and sauteed veggies, and if I eat snacks I try to do a banana + peanut butter or carrots and hummus.

I LOVE apples. And I used apple slices instead of crackers to eat with cheese. Yum. Also... a little EVOO and some dark leafy greens with dinner are super yum and very vitamin full. And when cooked, 1 serving is actually pretty tiny.
Good luck.

I have seen my doctor twice the last two weeks and she is very admitt about me getting 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables EVERYDAY! I've done the 5-6 small meals before and lived off a high protien low carb diet full of carrots, celery, apples and bananas so I know how to get it in. Sadly my old time favorite make me gag. Choking down carrots now...

My question to you: What do you do to get your 5-6 fruits & veggie in & how do you keep it interesting without adding a whole lot of extra calories with dips?
