I should mention that my sis has been nothing but thrilled to be an auntie to my baby the past 6 weeks. It's definitely been a great experience and now I'm happy the boys will get to hang together : )

@Jennimac: Awwww. I can't imagine how you are feeling - it must be so so tough to be around friends and babies but you are doing a great job! I hope that you and your husband are doing well these days.

@winniebee: wow! Thanks for the update. My mom and I were talking about this same thing, except it wasn't about my sisters. I have a friend who just found out she is probably 4-5 months pregnant and had no clue. She was upset to tell us since she is close to us and knows our whole story, etc. It just upset me so much that she is just pregnant. Like that! My mom was like, "you have got to get over your hang-ups on stuff." I was upset because I had a friend who was due after me and she was going to have her baby shower before me. It bothered me. Then, I lost my baby and her baby came early. So, of course I feel bad for having those thoughts and I know I need to get over myself before I see my friend that just found out she is pregnant next week. I know she is scared and worried so I need to be a good friend. I just needed to see this post and it helped me. Thanks for that and sorry for the novel!!!

Here's an update to this saga - where my sister and I were BOTH on bedrest with our little boys.

My baby boy was born May 17 - 10 days early - weighing in at 5 lb 5 oz. My sister's baby boy was born June 24 - two days early weighing in at 9 lb 10 oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My son is just now 8 lbs so he will be taking hand me downs from his younger cousin. Both boys were perfectly healthy : )

:( I'm so sorry. On the plus side, is this the first grandchild or grandson on your husband's side? She can't steal your thunder there! ;) And who knows, you could also deliver early, I did. In the end, here's hoping you both have healthy little boys.

For anyone who followed this, my sister already has her cervical issue again and is now on bed rest (21 weeks). There's no way I am going to deliver before her. Whole situation sucks, but most importantly I hope that her LO stays put for at least another 13 weeks...

Thanks everyone who responded to my meltdown yesterday. I'm feeling better about the situation already. I probably make my sister sound like a monster, which she is not. Obviously, she couldn't control the gender of her baby (though, ehem, she probably could have waited until the urine dried on my pregnancy test before getting knocked up again, esp. b/c we had trouble conceiving, but I digress). Also, she's the type to never really ask how I'm doing but to call and say "Ugh, I feel huge" or "Ugh I'm SO tired" and not ask how I'm doing or how excited I am about this baby, etc. I just always had dreams of her helping me when I was a new mom and being there for me I have been there fore her steadfastly since before her first baby was born. When I say that I have been super auntie to her little girls, I am underestimating how much love and time I give them. Of course, it's all worth it.

In the end, I know that having our kids close in age (and both little boys!) will be awesome for our kids. I know that my family couldn't be any more excited for my husband and I if our baby was the first and only. So, I should be feeling lucky and not annoyed. I know that the feeling will subside and in the end I'll just be focusing on our special little guy.

i guess i haven't been in that position, so not sure how i'd react. my brother's actually holding off having his 2nd so we can be in the "limelight" with our 2 babies. lol. not that i care. at all. he'll probably start when our babies are about 6 months old. he felt like the thunder was stolen when his SIL (wife's sister) had a baby right after theirs. they still had the first grandson!

I understand exactly where you are coming from. When I was pregnant I knew my SIL was TTC too... and I kind of wanted her to not get pregnant until I had my baby. But then I did always think that if she did get pregnant, it would be fun to have our babies be the same age and grow up together. But she didn't get pregnant anyway.

There is nothing wrong with you at all. I can see myself having a very similar reaction. The trick is to work on getting past it. My sister-in-law is the one I have felt this way about. She just gets everything to fall into place first. Everything. She's never been very good at sharing the spotlight. It's my opinion that as soon as we got pregnant, she decided to try. She became pregnant a few months later. But, as soon as we had our precious, perfect LO none of that stuff mattered anymore. I think you'll find the same. You're just so in love.

@winniebee: My sister was 4 months pregnant at my wedding, and made SEVERAL points of saying that if her dress didn't fit she would have to find another one that she liked better or that she didn't know if she could manage to stand for the entires 20 minute ceremony so maybe we should put a chair up for her. At that I said if she feels weak she can sit her ass down in a pew as not to draw attention to herself during my ceremony. She thought I was being rude by not serving food she was craving since chicken and roast beef were just "gross" to her. One of my other bridesmaid went off on her and told her to shut up, it helped for about 10 minutes! ha

Honestly I get exactly how you feel, and I'd be cranky about it too. My younger BIL's ex found out we were pregnant and getting married so she went off he birthcontrol and didn't tell my BIL. Lo and behold, she got pregnant in Sept... just incase I ended up having the first girl in the family. I'm not, I'm having a boy, and she already had the first boy last year so I don't get the point.

Some people just always have to be "better" and one up you though. It's never fun.

I don't think you're a mean person at all. It is irritating when things can never just be about YOU. I have a little sister, and while she's not pregnant or anything, she always seems to try and find a way to take some of the attention from me and make it about her. It's so annoying.

I am the same way but with my younger sister, I feel like she hates NOT being the center of attention so everything is about her. We are TTC and my mom mentioned to her, and she was like oh awesome we are going to TTC this summer again (she just had a daughter in September.) I know I should be happy for her, but I want to be able to enjoy being the pregnant one and my showers without sharing it with her. She "stole" my wedding from me at times due to her first pregnancy and I don't want this to happen again. I feel so selfish saying these things and the only one who knows how I feel is my DH.

Dude, I totally get it. I've got the younger sister syndrome too with my brother - he always has to be first, better, smarter, whatever. When I told him and his wife that we were expecitng a girl (they recently had a baby boy) I was shocked he didn't call back 2 weeks later and say they were adopting a little girl. Just so they could be first with the girl.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you have your boy first!!! When are you due? Keep us up to date, okay? :) I'm on team @winniebee, not team sister of @winniebee.

It is like that with my older sister too. When we announced our pregnancy, she was shocked, a bit of a naysayer amd then voila, 6 weeks later she was pregnant. I didn't even know she was going of BC and found the timing really weird. Never mind, soon we'll have our beautiful babies and none of this will matter.
