I heard that doing a cold rinse first helps prevent staining (something about the cold water). I follow rumparooz care routine. Cold rinse, hot wash with a scoop of tide, and a second cold rinse. About once every 3months or so i notice a faint smell starting so i do a wash with rockin green (i buy the sample packs). Never had to strip. I dry the inserts in the dryer and hang the diapers on a drying rack. My manufacturer recommends not line drying outside (lay flat only) because it will wear out the elastic prematurely.

Eta: rumparooz also says to never ever soak them. It will void the warranty.

Wow I definitely do not use as much water as all of you but for two years I've been doing a full HOT load with detergent and then a full COLD extra rinse. We've never had rashy bums (doing this routine for baby 2) or stinky diapers so I guess I'll stick to it?

I do a cold rinse, hot cycle with Country Save detergent, and one more cold rinse for good measure. I line dry both the diapers and inserts. Once a month I throw 1/4 c. Bleach in with the hot wash cycle. It seems to have served us well over the last 10 months!

We use coin op machines without fancy settings:

One load on cold, set to large/heavily soiled, small bit of detergent
One load on hot, little bit more detergent
Dry in dryer and/or hang to dry

We use Flips and Apple Cheeks. I got this routine from an online site, I'll have to figure out which one.

Pre-wash/20-minute cold soak w/Bac-Out, long hot wash w/detergent, cold rinse, 2nd cold rinse. Line dry everything; bonus if we can dry outside.

Mine is made up, but it works.

Settings: Bulky/heavy (uses a lot of water), heavily soiled, medium spin

Pre-wash/soak cold, heavily soiled/bulky hot wash with one scoop of Tide powder, 2 cold rinses. Takes 1 hour and 48 min start to finish :) I dry my diapers on a line, inserts go in the dryer. I don't use a lot of hot water or dry in the dryer because it breaks down your elastics.

We do a cold rinse without detergent, and then a long hot wash with detergent (Charlie's) and then a cold rinse.
You prob don't need so much hot, might shorten the life on any elastic parts

Tell me your wash routine?

I made mine up. So far no troubles. I am sure I am doing it all wrong but I don't smell a stink and they come out clean and we don't have rashes. So hopefully its ok? Anyways I put all the diaers and inserts in. Set it to hot, put a little detergent in and soak them. Then I do a power wash cycle still on hot and a tiny more detergent, then a final rinse cycle with an extra rinse and no detergent.
