@woohoo585: So glad that it is getting better! It's never easy, but at least it makes the mornings a little less heartbreaking for both you and your LO!

aww i'm sure it'll get better as she gets used to the new room!

it's always been really easy with both kids because they loved daycare. we drop them off and say bye and they say bye and we leave.

Just wanted to update and say thanks for the advice all! I started dropping her off super quick on Friday, with just a hug and a kiss and then I'm out the door, she still cries but its no worse than when I was hanging around forever waiting for the perfect moment to leave. And I think its getting less each day.

I also realized I need to make sure she walks in the room on her own, instead of being carried in. This seems to make the goodbye easier because if she is in my arms and I try to put her down she immediately freaks.

Also - it's AMAZING to be at work on time again!

Thanks for the ideas! I guess I really am making it worse by spending too much time there.

@MsLipGloss, I will try Hug, Kiss, Leave tomorrow!

DH puts her stuff (lunch, diapers) away in the right spots and gives her a kiss and then he leaves! Our teachers like quick drop offs.

My LO is 21 months and he has been going to daycare for about 6 months now. We go through phases of super easy goodbyes and ones that involve a lot of tears! Right now we are in a good phase so after we take off his coat, hat and mitts, and change his shoes, he gives me a quick kiss and takes off to play.

During our rough periods, we would go through the exact same undressing/shoe routine, and once his indoor shoes were on he would cling to me and start getting all panicky. I would go into his room and find a toy (or anything!) to calm him, then kiss him and leave. I would stay 10 minutes MAX and that would include the undressing part.

He is a creature of routine and he knows exactly what to do before I even have to ask him most times...I also think that for us, staying longer at drop-off would only prolong the crying. It does get better though so hang in there!

I try to be in and out within 5 minutes. 15-20 is just too long

Try to make sure she is entertained with something. Either picking out a special book off the shelf, getting a toy out, or for us, she likes to sit down and have breakfast.

We walk into the room, I make sure she has her lovey (her lamb), I giver her a squeeze and a kiss, I hand her to her teacher, and then I say say *bye bye, mama will see you this afternoon* . . . she usually waves bye bye even if she has a sad face and is about to cry. I don't linger as that just makes it harder on her! The short version would be (1) Hug, (2) Kiss, and (3) Leave.

ETA: 15-20 minutes is waaaay too long!

I drop her off, she gets a toy, I kiss her on the head and pass on any info to the teacher. Then I get the heck out of there. I have 0 time to spare in the AM.

We are lucky that it is very easy; we walk into her in home, she gets so excited that I have to "catch" her before running off to get her coat off and a hug/kiss. And then she calls and runs to "Ulie" (Julie) and eats breakfast! she loves it there (14 months.)

My LO is 15 months and just transitioned to the toddler room at daycare. She had been having trouble with drop off in her infant room but knew all the teachers and kids so was easily consoled. Now that its a new environment and new kids, she is hysterical when I go to leave.

I'm wondering what your goodbye routine is in daycare, as one of her teachers suggested we try to follow the same routine everyday so she knows what to expect.

Lately I've been staying there for 15-20 minutes because there never seems a good time to leave!
