My mom says her folks have been here since the days of slavery and that there's some French Canadian ancestors. Her dad was adopted so she doesn't know where his people were from.</p> <p>My dad came to America (and has been a citizen for a couple of years now) when he was about 15 with the rest of his family. They are from Guyana, South America (it's the only English-speaking country in SA and was formerly a colony of the British and the Dutch). One of my sisters used to say, "Oh, I'm half chinese." and my mom would correct her and say, "You are half-nothing; you a whole mix of wonderful cultures and history that blend to make a beautiful, strong girl."
