I meet with a trainer for 30 min 3x's a week and do a weak-moderate cardio for 20 min after and walk on my days off. I've taken a step back on intensity sense I found out I'm having twins. Working with a trainer is helping me stay accountable. Few years ago (childless & not pregnant) my best work outs were from the classes I took. I did boot camps, kick boxing, core yoga, etc. I was insane with it and did 2-3 classes a day but I looked freaking awesome! Good nutrition was the key then. I had to make sure I was eating enough of the right foods to keep up with my routine. The classes only lasted an hour & our gym had daycare for the mom's. The daycare is there for a reason & its only and hour or so a few days a week. They are there to help you achieve your goals & your kids will get use to it. USE IT AND LOSE IT!!!

This is the one that I like the best, it is a Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer : http://www.precor.com/en-us/home/products/amt

The others are good too at the gym, but this one kicks my butt!

@Mrs. Confetti: oh gosh, I hope that's not my child tomorrow :( she doesn't like other people unless she knows them so I'm worried!

@TurtleDoves: ah, I did HIIT after your post today. 3.4 miles and walked 2 mph instead for my rest! I hope the weight melts off.

@MrsBrewer: I also did 2:1 ratio, but when I did it awhile ago, it was 2 minutes slow, 1 minute high intensity. Today, I switched it to 2 minutes high intensity and 1 minute rest. It got harder and harder as I got closer to the end!

@LMOG47: that's such a good point. I use to do that ALL the time at the gym. I feel like my workout was: drink water, use one machine, look at myself in the mirror, get bored and run on the treadmill for 20 minutes...and I wondered why I wasn't losing weight lol.

Classes are the only thing that worked for me...I have to be locked in a room for an hr with others or else I'll just meander around, get bored & leave without ever really breaking a sweat. Especially like bodypump, spinning, kettle bell & a boot camp like class.

I work with my trainer 1 day a week. The other days I do cardio-running 5 minutes and walking 2 minutes on the treadmill- and then some weight training.

I prefer classes over working out on my own. Today I did turbo kick which is a high intensity cardio class with a lot of jumping and kicking.

I also like to do Pilates, Latin hip hop, Zumba, and body step. There is a body pump that incorporates weights but I'm too scared to try it.

If I don't do a class then I do about 30 minutes of treadmill running (I'm not a good runner so I alternate about 10 mins at 5-6mph and 1-2 mins walking at 3mph). Then a quick core workout on the floor and a few minutes of lunges with weights.

@HLK208: oh! And for those ttc, HIIT can still be don while pregnant if it was established well before the pregnancy. I am currently following multiple mommy blogs of women who did HIIT throughout their entire pregnancies. Of course: run it by your OB first if ever this is you. I have a feelingly oB would love this. She's a huge fitness buff.

@HLK208: I do 8 too! But I do 3 as my slow. "They" say that you should keep the slow waaayy down (like either rest, or do 2/3mph). That way, the body is in constant shock and change and that is what makes the system work best. I think this week I will up my 20min HIIT to 30min and take my 3 down to 2mph. I can't go higher than 8 either, unless someone wants to peel me off the floor;) I loooove HIIT. I finally look sexy naked:) like, I'm in better shape than ever. Loooooove HIIT!

I have a kid who HATES gym day care - like 10 minutes of hysteria and then they come get me to pick him up. For the time being, we have stopped trying.

I go to the gym for 30-40 minutes a few days in the week at 5:45/6:00 a.m. while DH is home with C, and I do weights only. I figure I get cardio in on walks with him and generally just chasing him around our house.

When I was at a regular gym, I would either take classes like Turbo Kick, spin, or body pump. Or I'd do 30 min of HIIT and 30 min of free weights. Machine weights aren't great at all!

@TurtleDoves: what speeds do you run at when you do HIIT? I think my old speed was 4 mph for slow pace then 8 mph for the high intensity - I NEVER could get faster than that or else I felt like I would fall off the treadmill lol.

@SupernovaJ: I agree, I feel like I never saw results fast enough with just the machines! I'm doing yoga flow tomorrow morning (running/walking 4.5 miles to the gym) so we'll see how it goes!

Although, I haven't gone in so long. @lemondrop: I have to try the elliptical/stair climber!!

I usually run for 45 minutes to an hour. OR do 30 minutes of HIIT. I do cardio 5x a week.

Weight training, I'll do 30 minutes after cardio using machines or free weights, or will take a class at the gym. I try to take a class over using the machines (schedule permitting) because they seem to be more strenuous than my dilly dallying in the weight area on various machines. ;) The classes are 1 hour and are usually called Body Pump or Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning, etc. Best moves for toning (me personally) are a variety of squats and lunges at high reps, and tricep dips. For core toning, Pilates moves are great. I'm usually cursing my instructors every class, but unless they're there to push me, it's hard for me to see results by simply using machines.

Also, Stairmaster is awesome for both cardio and keeping the lower half tight. On days I have little time, I'll do 30 minutes on the Stairmaster between 9-12 speed and that's it. You don't have to spend a ton of time doing this because it's so strenuous!

For the first few weeks I went to try out machines for 15-30 minutes depending on how C was doing (we've never done daycare either). He started the gym daycare at 15 months, and it took some time for him to get used to it. He always cried at drop-off and pickup for several minutes, then got distracted and was over it. We have a closed circuit camera on some of the machines, so I can watch the kids playing and see how he is doing- I love this! They will also come and get me if he is having a particularly bad day, which is very rare.

We are a couple of months in now, and I can leave him for an hour most days without any problems- I didn't think I would love the gym this much! It just depends what day it is and what I feel like doing- some days I take a class and others I work on a machine or several. I just keep trying different things so I don't get bored.

My favorite machine is an elliptical with a stair climber built in- not sure what it is called, but I can look next time I'm there. It burns tons of calories and kicks my butt :)

I just got a membership today (I cancelled while I was pregnant lol) and I want to be kind of quick when I'm there (cardio + weights for an hour). E isn't use to being in daycare and still has bad separation anxiety so I don't want to spend a ton of time there but I still want to get in shape.

What's your routine? Is is quick? What machines have helped you tone up the most?
