DD is 7.5 months and we have had a pretty steady nap routine since around 3 months with a few tweaks in the past few weeks. I take her to her room, check her diaper while talking/calming her down, sing "five little monkeys" (and dance her arms and legs), put on the Zipadee-Zip, turn on mobile then put her in her crib. Before this, I used to sing "twinkle twinkle little star" while rocking her then mobile and put her down in her crib. Sometimes when she's fussy, I do nurse her to sleep to help her.

Diaper change, then close light and blinds. He drinks milk if he wants while I read a story. I put him down awake after that. He's much older now and was when I started. Before that we were more in your situation and suffered more and more as he got older. The nap routine was a hard one to establish, but it became a lifesaver once it stuck.

I hope you can find something that works for you so you can both finally get a break. ((hugs))

LO is 5 months. I read her a book or two while lying down on my bed, and sing her a few songs. Then i swaddle her, turn on the sound machine and rock her for a few minutes while singing our usual sleep song and then out her in her crib. I have to admit, she has been a great napper since around 3 months.

LO is 14 months so ours is a lot different than it was when he was younger. Currently it's diaper change, close curtains, cuddle 5 minutes then into the crib and put on the sleep sheep. I'm trying to remember what it was at 4 months but can't for the life of me. I blame sleep deprivation- sorry!

Routine, shmoutine. DD is a short napper no matter what we do. She goes down for 30 minutes and then pops back up wide awake. She almost always needs to be rocked down 100% -- either in the glider or by putting her in the ergo or the stroller and going for a walk. When she naps in her crib, I rock her down, then place her in her crib w/ her white noise sleep sheep on.

All I do is put him in the swaddle sack or swaddle his body (not his arms), turn on the white noise machine, plunk in the soother, rub his head and leave the room. I do everything cue based now, so he goes down as soon as he gets the teeniest bit cranky.

Do you put him in the crib fully asleep? I have found that it helps my LO stay asleep when he falls asleep by himself in the crib. I have been working on the routine and tweaking it since he was 6 weeks.

We usually do a diaper change if needed, turn on the fan for white noise, then swaddle while singing twinkle twinkle little star. Now I can leave the room and he will fall asleep by himself. But before he learned how to fall asleep by himself, I would rock him until drowsy and then lay him in he crib. If he stirred, I would place my hand on his chest and apply a bit of pressure. Sometimes that would be enough. If he starts crying, I would rub his chest and shush him until he fell back asleep. Then I would hang out for 5 to 10 minutes in his room and rub and shush him back to sleep if he stirred and started crying. If he could stay down for at least 10 minutes then he would usually continue to stay down for a decent nap. It's a bit labour intensive but it worked for us.

We are stuck on that as well at 4.5 months. Our routine is, diaper change, short book, turn on white noise while rocking or nursing. When I put her in the crib, we get 30-45minute max. Naps. If I hold her, she will sleep for between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours. It's tough, I want her to nap, it's just so hard to sit with baby while she naps for that long. Oh well, 1 thing at a time, for me right now as long as she sleeps I'll just continue to hold her for naps! Sorry, that was no help!

@Natalily: 4 months. She would take excellent naps in her crib for a while, but I think the 4 month sleep regression got us. We just keep trying to put her down every day, even if its hit and miss. I usually hold her for at least one nap a day so she's sure to get one good one.

@c.sassy: how old is your LO? Mine is 5 months and I'm trying everything to get him to sleep in his crib and not only in my arms. I'm hoping he will also grow out of it.

We do a diaper change, story, and rock. I have to hold her for a while... definitely more than 15 minutes... for her to stay down. We're just coming out of a phase where she just wouldn't nap in the crib no matter when or how I put her down. I just held her through lots of naps and she grew out of it.

Hmmm, could you try holding him through the 15 minute mark after he falls asleep in the faternoons? Maybe once you make it past that point, he'll stay asleep once you put him down?

DS gets a story and the I turn on the white noise and feed him his bottle. I used to be able to put him into his crib right after that, but now I have to rock him all the way to sleep before putting him in his crib. We're usually out during his morning nap, so I just turn the white noise on my phone and he'll fall asleep without the rest of the routine.

We check/change his diaper, read 2-3 books on a floor pillow while he snuggles his lovey and then we turn off the lights, turn on the white noise, put him in the crib and walk out. We've been doing this since 3.5 months.

LO is 13 months and we don't really have one. Usually I'll change her diaper, turn off the lights and turn her fan on and say, "night night (insert whatever nickname I decide to use here) I love you!" and stick her in the crib. But if I changed her diaper not too long ago I'll skip that step.

DS is 4 months and until a few weeks ago, I didn't really need a nap routine (or, at least I didn't think I did). I would just swaddle him and put him in the swing or R&P with a pacifier or would give him a little more milk and he would sleep. Now, not so much.

The morning nap is still easy (b/c he's more tired?) and he sleeps in his swing (and usually naps long). For the afternoon naps, I've tried a few things (bringing him into nursery with lights off, rocking him, shhing him, swaddling, not swaddling, white noise. He wakes 15 mins after I set him in the crib, wide awake and it's beyond difficult to get him back to sleep. I've tried napping him in the swing, too, in the afternoon, but I think there's too much stimulation.

What's your nap routine and how long did it take to stick? Do I just need to really work to get him back to sleep after 15 mins to encourage crib napping?
