@Hypatia: I love the idea but haven’t really done it yet. I have pared down though. I mostly wear black or grey tops with different brightly colored crop pants at work. Sometimes a blazer or cardi. On weekends almost exclusively leggings and hoodies or T-shirt’s. What I don’t have anymore are nice going out clothes ...

After I became a SAHM, I did a major closet purge and came up with basically a capsule. Everything is navy/black/gray/white/cream/olive green. My go-to daytime look is either leggings or skinny jeans (have multiple pairs/style of both, including nicer ponte leggings); a plain blouse or sweater and riding boots. Almost always accessorize with a silk scarf either in my hair or around my neck. For client showings I add a blazer and switch out boots for ankle booties or heels. That’s Fall/winter/Spring... summer I am and always have been at a loss. happy to be preg in summer again so I have an excuse to live in lulu and sneakers

My style used to be “French girl” style in a capsule, with lots of striped tees and cardigans, and I also did a lot of dressy casual dresses. But since we moved to the tropics, I basically only wear dresses and flip flops.

I just don't do exciting. I love casual comfy dresses and leggings. I am getting rid of most of my old shirts that needed an undershirt because I just don't care enough to wear two layers now. And I'm on a cardigan hiatus.

I only wear necklaces and my daughter tries to rip them off, so no jewelry for now!

@Hypatia: I went to a capsule just this year. I’m not completely finished, but I’m loving it so far. I’m too busy to expend mental energy each day on what to wear, so having a few bullet-proof favorites to always turn to, without wading through the junk, helps immensely. I actually feel pleased when I open the closet instead of overwhelmed.

You should check out Justine LeConte on YouTube. She’s a super down-to-earth French fashion designer. She has videos on french style, capsules, dressing for your body, and identifying quality items.

I love the idea of this but in reality it hasn't really worked for me yet! I am super pregnant, so realistically I have at least a year or more of changing body size, weight loss (hopefully lol), breastfeeding, etc.... so I'll probably just be cobbling together from what I have.

I have to dress business casual for work with occasional super-dress up (suit and heels for court). And at home on the weekends with my 2yo (and soon to be new baby) I find I prefer workout shorts, running shoes, stuff like that because I'm on the go with them. Pre-kids I had a lot more "dressy casual" wardrobe stuff for weekends, going out to dinner, etc. and I find I almost never wear that now.

Plus we live in south Florida and it is HOT year round - so I really don't wear a lot of jeans, long sleeves, etc. I find it makes it a lot harder to dress, so I find myself wearing mostly workout/gym clothes type stuff on the weekends, and mostly dresses and flats to work. I mean, I am chasing him at the park and it's 90 degrees, so...

I would love a capsule wardrobe, and tried to put one together a couple of times. It hasn't worked out yet. The pieces I meant to rely on just didn't wear as well with time... I think if I'd happened on something I really love a year after getting it, this would be a different story. I just find it so hard to predict which purchase will be a hit for years to come, and which one will turn out to be a dud.

Right now my style is just "I hope it matches." I love very girly clothes, dresses, cute blouses - but at work it's either business casual or something that's appropriate for a construction site. So my closet is full of clothes with totally different styles...

Like @looch: I LOVE clothes and shopping so a capsule wardrobe isn't for me. BUT, as I've gotten older there are a few rules that I abide by that helps me make sure that everything in my closet gets worn regularly. I have an edgy, rock and roll style/look, so nearly all of what I buy has to fit into that aesthetic. Occasionally I find something classic or floral that I love, but if I can't figure out how to wear it with items that I already own, it doesn't go home with me. Example: I realized a few years ago that I hate hate hate cardigans and never wear them, so I purged my closet of them. Since then, I haven't bought a single cardigan, and never plan to again. I've found a suitable alternative in denim jackets, light leathers, or statement blazers and that's what I wear now and they all make me happy.
I do have a color palette that I mostly stick with to make things easy - black/gray/shades of red/army green are my go to hues, with some prints thrown in based on those colors. By eliminating colors that I found I don't like wearing (browns and blues, mostly) almost everything in my closet can mix and match.

Ugh I am still trying to loose weight so I'm waiting till later to downsize my wardrobe. Right now my clothes are a mess b/c it consists of things that are too small still, things that are too large, and in general a lot of loose fitting stuff that doesn't really look good.

No capsule for me, I love clothes and as my son correctly states, all the colors are my favorite colors. I wear prints regularly and I shop every season.

My style is tailored and classic, but fun and age appropriate. I am known for my uniform of patterned pants and a tailored blazer at work and I love it.

I do a capsule wardrobe. I started after finishing pregnancy because I realized I could survive easily with a small wardrobe and am interested in minimalism.
I aim for dressy casual since (I mostly stay home with two boys ) in a pretty classic style. Blue/gray/black neutrals with teal and orange in the spring/summer and teal and maroon in the fall/winter. It makes shopping so much easier. There are other colors that look good on me but I just rarely wear them because it's easier this way.

One of my goals this summer will be to declutter my closet and really pare down my wardrobe to my favorite pieces. My clothes are all over the place from years of hand me downs and trying all kinds of stuff to see if it was "me."

What I've discovered over the past year is that yes, I do have a real style—or at least, a style aspiration. French! I'm going to stick to basic tanks in gray, white, navy and black, with some cardigans, dark jeans, skirts, and a little black dress. I love neutrals with some soft pink or an occasional olive thrown in. I used to think this palette would be too boring, but now I'm embracing simplicity. .

What's your style? How long have you been sporting it? Have any of you attempted a capsule wardrobe and succeeded?
