@MamaMoose: From what I know of it, if you enroll through a company you're locked into yearly contracts so you can only get in or out during open enrollment. So when I went to join they got me to join in April but knew I was locked in for a year. Then, since we weren't planning to get pregnant until August, I technically was locked in for 2 years. Even with 2 years I think I calculated that I would make almost twice my money back.
However, I was laid off and became an individual subscriber so now I can cancel at any time. So as soon as I get my payout, I'm calling them!
I think that they lose money on pregnancies (depending on what policies you purchase) but make more money on people who don't have a planned event but pay anyway.

Oof, I'm sorry. That's tough. We're a month out from TTC and the wait is killing me!

@MrsCastro: I don't understand how this works. Will you quit the plan once you go back to work? If your pay out is significantly higher than the total of your premiums I don't understand why AFLAC would have these short term plans available since there is no way they can be making money?

I saw that disclaimer when I looked into AFLAC, and for us the payout wasn't worth it.

I have Aflac as well and made sure to ask them about that. If it helps, with our coverage we're getting a $6k+ payout when DD comes out! I know you're anxious to get going but it is a great system for planned events.

@artbee, @mrsblue, @mediagirl; thank you for the kind words...it put me in a funk yesterday, DH was very supportive and said would continue with our plans as we had them and we would be fine...i love that man!!!

@mrbee; its Aflac, so we dont really "need" the additional coverage, but the cushion after a little one is very nice. Plus, i had always said i would be a SAHM after our first was born and it doesnt look like i will be able to do that until maybe after the 2nd one, but the added AFLAC will help me stay a home longer with the baby while transitioning back into to work part time vs full time...

so i did some internet searches last night and it says i deliver before 10 months of the signed contract to i can technically give birth anytime after march 1st, 2013....

That is ridiculous! Insurance issues can be so frustrating! Hang in there and if you are going to wait the 3 months, as @artbee says, this could be a great time to work on learning about your cycle and perfecting your timing. That time will just fly by!

Man, that sucks, I'm sorry. The plan through my work just needs to know you weren't pregnant before you bought the plan. What does it offer you? Could you start saving money now, go off birth control and if it happens, have enough to cover what the plan would cover?

That sucks! I'm so sorry. I don't think it matters how long you have to wait, when you want something so much and you feel ready, waiting is such a hard hit. I once cried for a whole afternoon at the thought of having to wait three months, so you have allll my sympathy.

So so so sorry! How awful to have to wait for that. Hopefully these three months will go by super quick for you! Were you planning on charting? Maybe you can start that so you'll know more about how your body works and when you'll ovulate so you'll be ready.

i have a current love/hate relationship with AFLAC....

I was talking to my a friend in our HR department, she sugguested i meet with AFLAC for additional benefits for hospital and maternity leave...so i met with them today everything was perfect until they informed me that i cant get pregnant within the next three months...;(...not happy about this...if i get pregnant withing that time it would be considered a pre-existing conditiona and would be denied the extra benefits...we were suppose to starte TTC next month...i know its just afew extra months but my heart is broken a little....

so pitty party in my office...i am one sentence away from balling my eyes out...AFLAC you are currently on my hate list...
