I got mine when I turned 13.. don't remember it being a big deal pain-wise and I was old enough to take care of them. Maybe it is a regional thing, but I don't see many babies with pierced ears.. to be honest, it weirds me out a little. My husband had to walk away and then was comepletely surprised when I told him she didnt even cry.<br /> she just let out a little whimper and that was it. I was totally suprised! its been a month and they seem fine. I think I got mine done somewhere between 10-12. It was an awesome birthday present. Of course it hurt but that's a given. It hurt but I didn't cry and I took care if them and they never got infected. I got my second holes in 5th grade and never had an infection either. If I have a daughter I'll wait until she is 10 or so to let her get her ears pierced. I had my ears pierced when I was 4. I developed an allergy to most metals and my holes closed up. I got the repierced when I was 14. My grandmother got our ears pierced as a birthday present and my dad made her wait until we were 12. My other cousins were much younger, including some that were infants.</p> <p>I'd like to pierce my LO's ears sooner rather than later, but I'm afraid she'll pull on them or something. I was old enough to take care of them myself (with some helpful reminders from my mom) and never had any issues. I'll do the same; it was a "double digits" rite of passage for me! That, and I'm a suck. I don't think I could stand to put holes in a baby's ears. I also wouldn't do it at kindergarten age for the exact reason that Joholler put forth. Kindergarteners are stubborn enough to not take care of them and I think the pain would be too traumatizing. </p>
