We just recently switched to 2% at 24 months. 2% has the same nutritional benefits of whole milk without the additional saturated fat. Since I'm expecting LO to be drinking a good amount of milk for many years to come, I want to watch her saturated fat intake since they are not good fats. She gets plenty of good fats from other sources.

Thanks all!

She is 20m, so we'll hang on a little longer, no way in heck am I going to get on homo/whole milk myself, bleh! Meeting in the middle at 1% or 2% eventually though is totally doable.

Our ped said 2 but even then it had to be 1 or 2% not skim.

We also just use his un-homogenized wholefat milk for ourselves. Granted we only use it for our coffees or cooking.

Depends on how old your LO is. I would check with your LO's ped and see what they say. We've always just stuck with whole milk. I used to buy skim milk for myself until we moved overseas. Skim milk is hard to come by b/c no one likes to drink it here b/c it's tasteless. I have to agree but it's an acquired taste, really!

@Dandelion: Yes exactly.

It's not about the amount of dairy intake, it's about healthy fats that are good for brain development, among other things.

We're happy to use whole milk for all of us. If your diet is otherwise well-rounded, the healthy fat is a good thing, not a bad thing! :)

It's not the dairy but the fat intake that is the issue. If your LO is getting lots of good fats from other sources, like avacados and other healthy sources, you can cut back. Fats are brain developing fuel.

Our ped gave the ok at 2 years but you could ask about switching early if you feel her overall diary intake is good?

I've read not to give reduced fat products until 2 years old.

When can I switch my LO from homo milk to what I drink? I usually drink 1% or skim, but open to 2% just to be able to buy one type of milk! It's not a huge deal obviously, but just a convenience thing I guess!

She definitely gets enough dairy on top of her milk intake and is a great eater overall and good weight!
