@regberadaisy: That's not our daycare rules. Once the fever has passed, we're allowed back at daycare. With HFM, the blisters may not show up for a few days until after that period, but they aren't contagious at that point.

@Foodnerd81: I'm so sorry mama. It's so hard when they're sick and even more so when you're pregnant. I hope you get some relief soon.

Sigh. Poor kid is up and crying again at 2:30 am, so I guess between that and the rash we are out of activities. Again. I'm going to lose my freaking mind. No one has slept in days t feels like.

A pimply rash sounds like something more than just viral. I know it stinks, but I'd keep her home. Maybe you can come up with a fun activity to do instead of the class. Buy some premade cookies and decorate them, a gingerbread house, an art project or a special movie with snacks at home.

@Foodnerd81: HFM is more pimple like. A viral rash starts on the tummy/chest and back.
The chest pic is Viral.
The hand pic is HFM.

It depends on what the sickness is. DS just had Fifth Disease, which starts with a fever and ends with a splotchy rash. Once the rash comes out they're not contagious. But other things are contagious when the rash starts.

@oliviaoblivia: it seems more like a viral rash- small red bumps, not oozy or blistery, more like pimples. Except this one spot on her palm that looks like a small, not red, blister. The rash is pretty much only on wrists and back of hands, and butt and back of thighs. She's been scratching at a couple of the wrist spots. She only had a fever for maybe 12 hours, went as high as 102.3.

This just sucks. I realize whatever it is, it's mild and no big deal, but this is probably our last week just the two of us before the baby is born and I'm overly emotional and drained. And dealing with the uncertainty of this on top of the uncertainty of being 39 weeks pregnant is just wearing me down.

@Foodnerd81: a viral rash looks like little pink spots all over the torso, occasionally the face. They are patchy and not too raised. It follows a cold and once the rash shows up the virus is no longer contagious.
HFM looks like dark red blisters. A little oozy if they've been picked. They are bigger and a bit scarier looking. They cluster on the hands, feet, lips, and inside the mouth. Some kids get them in the diaper area. It follows a couple days of a very high fever and at least in my house a lot of crankiness.

Viral rash I'd take to activities.
HFM I'd wait until the rash was mostly gone.

You can not go back to daycare until the rash has scabbed over. If she got a new rash today then I would not take her to activities. Technically, when the rash appears they are past the contagious period. But I think it's safer to follow "daycare rules" for activities.

I feel like I'm getting the run around from my pediatrician's office about when I can bring C back to activities. She had a fever Friday- Saturday. Sunday she started having a rash on her butt and back of hands and wrists. Kind of peaked Monday, has been getting better since then. I spoke with the nurse a couple of times and she basically said I was welcome to bring her in but it has to run its course no matter what, so it wasn't necessary to come in. I've kept her home since then and we are getting antsy! But she has a new tiny blister on her palm today. (I think it's new, but can't be sure)

The nurse called back to check on her today, said she was going to check with the ped about going back to a class tomorrow. Someone else called me back and basically was like, well without seeing her we can't tell you anything- by then it was 6 pm. I live three blocks away and could have gone in if they told me that earlier.

Anyway, enough venting. If your LO has had a viral rash or coxsackie or HFM, when did you bring them back to activities with other kids? It's not daycare, I wouldn't have to take time off work, but it's a class she really enjoys and I'm sick of being in the house. By also don't want to get the other kids sick for Christmas.
