I also saw on The Car Seat Lady that she recommends putting rolled up receiving blankets on either side of the baby's head. Although, that was more as an aesthetic thing, to prevent sideways head flopping in the car seat. She said it was much better than using third party inserts that push the baby's head forward.

@Mrs. Lion: That does make sense. I'll bring it up with the ped this summer. I'm sure I'll be doing mostly walking at first, and then running on the paved paths. I haven't been super active this pregnancy so I will have a ways to go to work up to the dirt paths. As pretty as they are, they have a lot more hills.

@Astro Bee: my understanding is that if baby is strapped into an infant seat it is safe because the seat is supporting baby's head and neck. The jogger seat doesn't provide enough support until they can hold their head on their own. I felt safe jogging with lo as long as he was strapped into the infant seat from the beginning...I might warch a little closer for jostling on dirt paths though. It was usually pretty smooth on the pavement.

@Jojogirl: Glad to hear it! I did a comparision between the BOB Revolution and the Summit and liked the Summit so much more.

@Autumnleaves: We were initially looking at the City Mini GT, but the woman at the store advised us that it's not considered a real jogger, although I'm sure if you are running on smooth surfaces it's probably fine, like @Mrs. Lion said. We decided a couple of days ago to go with the Summit X3, because it has the better suspension, a brake and a runaway strap. It's probably overkill for most people, with the 3-wheel independent suspension, but we have dirt paths, as well as well-paved ones around our house. The dirt ones are actually nicer because they wind through the forest behind our house and are shaded. It is a little heavier, though.

@thenetexan, @Mrs. Lion: Is there a different rule for jogging if the baby is in an infant car seat as part of a travel system vs. strapped into the jogger directly? I hadn't heard that before.

We plan to use the infant car seat (Chico Keyfit 30) attached to the Summit for walks long before we run with him.

Our ped is conservative, but when we asked at our 6 month appt, she said to wait until 8 months if not in car seat. Our LO had great head control. He is in the 95th percentile for head though. She acknowledged her stance is conservative, but said the risk is to much shaking of the head.

Our LO is 3.5 months old and we are planning to start jogging with him at 6 months. Because we only wanted one stroller to start off with, we got the City Mini GT - we are going to try jogging lightly with it on paved surfaces - we saw someone at the park using it to jog his baby around since we got it. If it ends up being too bumpy a ride for the LO, we will look at Bobs.

I have the Summit X3!!!!!I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It's pretty new to the market so a lot of people don't know about them yet, and BOBs have been around for a while. We tried both of them at Buy Buy Baby and were totally sold on the Summit. We started using it around 8 months (ped said 5 or 6 but it was winter then)!

@MrsHansen82: my understanding is that as long as baby is in an infant seat you should be fine. I started long walks even before jogging, by about 6 weeks. Lo seemed perfectly ok. I think the waiting is because it's too bumpy to put them in the main part of the stroller until they are strong enough to support their own head...but an infant seat does that for them.

Okay I had no idea you had to wait or have a special stroller to jog! Good thing this thread came up...We have a Chico Cortina and Chico a Key Fit car seat. Anyone know if we can power walk right away? This was my plan to lose the baby weight....

BOB recommends 6-8 months. We started at six months. It was warmer then and H had good head/neck control. I do not have a car seat adapter because mine is too old and the adapters don't fit my seat. My friend has an Ironman and ran with her daughter much earlier, but she was always on a smooth path and was in the infant carrier.

Ummm, I knew nothing about waiting till 6 months for jogging :bummed: I have an Instep 5k jogging stroller and used an infant insert I bought at Babies R' Us until he was old enough to sit upright.

I didn't feel like jogging until after 3 months, so we went for a lot of walks until then.

6 months seems like the recommendation, or when he has full neck control. I'll check with the ped next fall before I start. The BOBs really seem popular on here. I'll have to find one in a local store to try out. The one where I tried out the Baby Jogger Summit also had the Bumbleride Indie, but not any BOBs.

I found I had to fumble with the Indie to get it to fold, although it handled great. Ease of folding and weight are also important to me, as it would be our primary stroller. We have a Hyundai Santa Fe so we have lots of room in the truck, so it doesn't need to fold up really small, just easily.

I am not a runner by any means....I started "jogging", meaning walking with a slow jog, before 6 months (maybe 3 months?) with my britax b-agile stroller. LO was in the infant seat and was very secure, and I was running on pavement very slowly, so I felt like it was fine. I never felt like I needed a real jogging stroller because of this. But if I was running on unpaved surfaces I would have definitely needed a real jogging stroller with inflatable wheels and better shock absorption.

I'm expecting my first child in April, and am trying to decide what stroller(s) to get. I really like the Baby Jogger Summit X3 because it is so easy to fold (one hand), and I can use it as a regular stroller, with a carseat travel system, and later, as a jogger. Does anyone have any experience with this or other joggers? I'm also wondering how long I have to wait to start jogging with baby? Will it be winter time before he's old enough?
