Yes! She can climb up herself, and I trust her 90% of the time to come down herself (we are watching and right there of course). She know she has to sit down and scoot down step by step... She's been doing it since she turned 1.

DD could climb the stairs on her own at 8.5 months. I don't trust her to be unsupervised but I don't have to help her in any way. She can't figure out how to go down the stairs yet though.

Both kids could go up the stairs around 15 months. Maybe a few more months before they could go down (Logan can't go down yet).

But walking up and down unsupervised? We probably didn't let Xander do that until 2.5.

My son started crawling around 7 months and shortly after was climbing the stairs any chance he got. We have a big set of stairs and 4 little 3 step stairs so I wanted him to learn to go down then and I taught him to turn around and crawl down. At first he wouldn't turn himself around I had to but he would go down the rest of the way. The day after he was 11 months he started taking his first steps then the next day he just turned himself around at the stairs and went down!! I still monitor him as hes still learning but definitely can happen early

He has been able to go up for a long time pretty well. Since around 1. Now we moved to a two storey and he leaned to go down. I don't let him alone though (he's 22 months). we have hardwood stairs and tile at the landing. That would be a bad fall! We will have baby gates forever I'm sure! We want to keep the dogs downstairs, so actually we probably will have the gate for a while!

We had our stairs blockaded from when LO1 was about 1 year to 2 years, but I think he could crawl up and down on his own comfortably by 18 months. Now at 27 months, he is pretty comfortable going up and down stairs standing on his own, although he often asks to hold a hand. Of course, the 11 month old now loves going up stairs, so the blockade is back

(We installed a gate at the top of the stairs. The bottom of the stairs is in our front hall, and we just slide our bench in front of the stairs when needed.)

We have a gate on the bottom but he's figured out how to open it and before us know it is at the top 🙀. Granted we haven't hard mounted it yet, so he can just slide it open.

We have a gate so she's supervised on the stairs always. I'd be a nervous wreck otherwise. She crawls up them quickly. She's learning to scoot down now.

@winniebee: he crawls up the stairs (thankfully). And he does a mix of bum scoots and backwards crawling down the stairs.

I don't think LO1 walked up and down the stairs until she was at least 18 months.

@Freckles: walking or crawling? Are you ok with him doing it alone?

R has been crawling up stairs since 9 months but now at almost 14m he's trying to walk up them. We just moved and I'm a nervous wreck with no baby gate situation yet and wondering if we should just work at teaching him.

DS is almost 14 months and he can go up and down the stairs by himself. He was able to figure it out maybe a month ago?

She was a steady walker at 10 months and stairs followed shortly after. We have never had baby gates or anything so she's been doing stairs for a while. She's super cautious and never really did it without me until she was comfortable. She would always ask for help until one day she didn't, it's been a while though (she's 2 next month) that o didn't feel the need to supervise.

She's been very confident in doing the stairs in our home/friends' buildings since about 18 months. I was confident with her going up around that time, but am just getting comfortable with her going down (and still don't love it) at 20 months.

She was crawling up stairs at the park since before she could walk, though - definitely a climber!

By herself like I wasn't carrying her? Before 2, maybe even 18 months for a short flight (like on a play structure at the park). She was climbing out building stairs on her own around 22 months or so. But I still need to supervise as every once in a while she looses her balance and I need to catch her.

We didn't have stairs when our older was aged 14-26 months. By the time we did at 27 months, he could go up and down on his own. So, maybe he could have done it sooner?

When was your LO able to go up and down stairs on their own?
