Yay for jumping!!

DS is 26 months and doesn't jump. He bends at the knees, bounces up and down and stomps one foot and thinks he's jumping. I think it will be a while since he is so cautious.

At daycare they play lots of jumping games and his teachers tell me he just runs over things.

My LO will be 3 next month and doesn't really jump - she makes the right movements and excitedly says "I'm jumping!!" but her feet don't leave the ground. She is *extremely* physically cautious though (was a later walker, and even at almost 3 still won't go up/down stairs by herself, will only do it holding hands or a rail and zero interest in climbing anything) so I'm not really surprised, and definitely not worried.

26 months and no jumping just a little tip toeing but she's very cautious. A little boy at her daycare does broad jump across the room at 14 months or so. Everyone is on their own timeline but it's really fun to watch.

Sometime after 2, before 2.5 for DD1. We couldn't figure out why she wasn't jumping, so we gave her something to jump *over* and she did it no problem. I guess she just hadn't seen the objective before then! :silly:

@Mrs Green Grass: M just started jumping last month (so 31 months - glad I didn't know to worry  ) and now she's obsessed with jumping. She's always been on the later side for physical milestones but it seems like she had a huge developmental leap in the last month and is doing lots of jumping and climbing.

DD1 is behind on this as well. She'll be 3 next month and still isn't jumping. She does a kind of tiptoes bobbing up and down movement with big arm movements but isn't actually getting her feet off the floor. I'm not hugely concerned yet but she also still sits in the W sit all the time (I correct her but she subconsciously goes right back to it a minute later and actually can't balance very well in a cross legged position) so I am wondering if it is all related. I plan on calling our Health Visitor in the next week or two to discuss this further .

@Mrs Green Grass: @jedeve: same january age and an early walker (10 months), not cautious at all and she still doesn't jump! but i think she thinks she is jumping. we've gone to the trampoline park, practiced jumping, etc, but she still doesn't get off the ground! she bends her knees and goes up and down, but no air. i just kinda laugh and figure she'll get it one day! she usually learns by watching but the girl just cannot figure it out.

@Mrs Green Grass: my LO has strong gross motor skills in everything BUT jumping. He is the same adjusted age as your LO. (We were in the January board together!) I think I saw him get two feet off the ground this weekend? His big hold up, I think, is that he thought he was actually jumping, even if it was just one foot off the ground!

I wonder if girls jump earlier? Different center of gravity?

I would say right at 1.5 but that seemed early compared to a lot of other kids. I would say by 2 is around normal and if he was such a late walker later than that might be normal for him. Just keep him practicing and do lots of fun jumping activities.

My daughter turns 2 next month and she mastered jumping within the past 3 weeks - started with the one footed bounce but she kept practicing it a LOT and now she gets both feet off the ground almost every time :) If she hadn't been so interested in it, it probably could have been a while though - she saw some older kids jumping around and really wanted to do it since then! She started walking just before 11 months if that matters
