I would say that sleep didnt really get super predictable until 12 months. And even then nighttime sleep is a crapshoot...

A has pretty much in a routine now at 3.5 months. She's also good at sleeping anywhere so naps are easy.

Night got pretty predictable around maybe 8 or 9 months. Naps.... not really yet at 11 mo. Ever since 8 weeks basically we'd get into a good/predictable groove for a week or two then it would go to shit for a while, then it'd get good again, then be crazy again... I mean I guess now it is sort of predictable, I put her down around the same times every day at least. But she still has random days where she only sleeps 25 min or refuses a nap or just freaks out and I have no clue why.

We only got onto a predictable nap schedule when she went down to two naps, and even then, it took a few months for the timing to settle down. I think it was between 9 and 12 months. That was also when she STTN (around 10 months).

Predictable? Around 4 months for both naps and night time sleep. That is not to say it was good, but predictable.

My daughter is 7.5 months and I'd say it's just in the last couple of weeks that her sleep schedule has gotten predictable (although not preferable lol). She wakes up at 7:30am, has a nap between 11am and 1pm, then a power nap around 5 for 20 minutes and is in bed by 8:30 (although she still wakes up every 2 hours...).

We had a brief period of a month or so where 2-3-4 worked for us, but really, sleep is unpredictable around here. Sorry :bummed:

There's been times of predictability, but nothing constant. Naps got predicatable after 6 months. We dropped down to 2, so she was tired for both of them. Daycare also forced an early transition to 1 nap at 13 months, so that also meant she was tired for it and always slept. Night sleep has never been predictable. Right now she's STTN since 18 mo (so one month), but that's only 75% of the time and goes out the window when she has a cold. Or is teething. Or has a sleep regression. So, you know, most of the time!

My daughter is almost 1 and we are just now having some predictability. But, she throws me for a loops several times a week also. She does take 2 naps pretty reliably, around the same time, but length is always different. She usually falls asleep around 7:30-7:45, but wakeup time varies anywhere from 6 to 7. I am hoping once she is on one nap, we will get some sort of real schedule? But who knows.

@birdofafeather: Thank you  I have another LO who is 3 months old and while it's still too early to figure out what her schedule is she definitely sleeps better than her big sister. So at least I have that going for me.

With my first, she had a lot of predictability from 6-months on but with minor regressions (that I'm now thinking were related to wonder week stuff). LO #2 is less predictable but I'm also seeing a trend as I compare notes! He is in a leap right now and is having the same weird sleep stuff my daughter had at this exact point in time (I keep a "one line a day" journal for both kids). This gives me great hope as my daughter is an excellent sleeper, but she too had weird phases. Hang in there, I'm also wishing for better sleep over here! One night it's great and then the next is nuts!

I think naps were starting to take shape and predictability around 3 months.

I think with the waking 30 minutes into the nap you may want to start putting LO down earlier? I've read a few places that early waking in naps can be a sign of being overtired and you should try to put them down earlier in 15 min increments. IE if first nap is usually 2 hours after waking for the day, try an hour and 45 mins.

Never. LO1 has never had a predictable nap or nighttime sleep schedule. In fact she stopped napping altogether at 17 months. And she has never slept longer than 9 hours at night. Usually it's 8 hours with at least 1-3 wakeups. She has crazy low sleep needs. I'm a tired mama.

For us, predictability happened somewhere around 9 months when we dropped from 3 naps to 2. At that point, he would become very fussy after 3 hours of awake time so we just started putting him down for a nap at the 3 hour mark. Now at 14.5 months, he's transitioning to 1 nap and it's more unpredictable again.

Naps only became predictable once he went down to one nap (that's how I voted).

I feel like nighttime sleep is always changing. He pretty much consistently started STTN all the time at 2 years old. He only wakes up if he's sick (he's 2.5 now). But his bedtime has gotten so late!

Night sleep has been kind of predictable for awhile, but that's because we have to get him up at a certain time to go to the babysitters. So he only gets to 'sleep in' twice a week and now he's so used to that schedule he doesn't really do it.

My babysitter just got him on a day schedule in the past two weeks. He's 7 months. He wakes around 6am, his first nap is still an hour or an hour and a half later depending on when he woke up. Then his second and third naps are at 10, and 2.

I found DD got regular around 4 mo. She would take 3 naps, then quickly dropped down to 2 at 6 mo and pretty much put herself on a 1 midday nap schedule by a year (which all the sleep experts say is unlikely before 14 mo)

Night sleep for LO 1 at 8 weeks, naps at 13-14 months!

Night and naps very early for LO 2 at 6 weeks. No real regressions until 11 months and at almost 2 we have the occasional wake up at night....2-3 times a month.

I'm getting a bit frustrated with the unpredictable-ness of sleep around here. In general, DS (8mo old) is a good nighttime sleeper, but poor napper. I do a rough 2-3-3 schedule, but more often than not his naps are only 30 mins. Sometimes I can extend them, sometimes not.

In the morning he used to sleep until about 8:30, but now he is having a hard time getting back to sleep after his 6ish feeding. Today is really random, I finally got him back down at around 7:40 (after trying a few times), and he is still asleep 2 hours later. He was awake screaming from 12-1:30am (unusual).

When he was smaller, nighttime sleep was very predictable, he would wake up at 6 to eat, then sleep until around 8, but this all changed with solids.

So, when was sleeping predictable for your kid?
