@looch: agree with you. I'm more worried about what lies ahead.

Also somewhere around 2.5 we were definitely done with baby/toddler issues (potty trained, STTN, could feed himself mostly, talking) so the day to day became much easier.

I feel like 6 months was a huge turning point. I can deal with an awful lot more when I am not exhausted. And she started crawling earlier and was fun. She was walking around by 10 months! Crazy. I feel like at 19 months, we're in an "easy" spell right now, too. She's eager to please, listens pretty well, follows commands, and is really sweet and loving.

Last summer, at around 13 months--we had a brief period of having one of those "easy" kiddos. AND I had finally stopped pumping and following the MSPI diet. It was awesome! I still think it's because I was home with her on summer break. But, LO started eating really well, she started STTN, she took great naps, was super pleasant during the day (except for a couple of off days due to teething). We had a really great summer together.

Too bad it didn't last! Things started to fall apart again after I went back to work in Sept. :bummed:

Around 9 months, he was finally crawling and able to move around so HE was happier, there was less pressure on nursing, so that was easier. But his sleep still sucked. So that was tough. Honestly, the toddler age (from 13m-now) has been the easiest (kind of). He STTN, he naps, he can talk and walk. SO much more fun, and much easier to be with him because he's more fun, and he can communicate.

With my first it was 3 months, when our nursing relationship was smoother b/c I finally had enough for him and figured out why he broke out in full body eczema at 8 weeks. With my second, it was 2 weeks later.

@looch: I agree with you. I worried a lot about DS1 as a baby - eating, sleeping, etc. he hit one and didn't worry about all that stuff anymore. With his brother I don't even give any of that a second thought. But now I think that the truly hard stuff is down the road. The bigger they are, the bigger the problems.

- 5.5 months when his tongue tie was clipped and FINALLY he stopped crying all the time - I have never been so relieved in all of my life!

- 8 months when he started sttn, and around the same time we weaned to formula. I was really sad and guilty about weaning, but I felt so much happier in myself afterwards.

6 months we did a major sleep train. I felt half human again.

10months + was awesome. He was so much more independent. Didn't need any discipline (didn't really know how to be "bad"). Curious & eager to learn everything!

It started to get a little harder again around 14months when he started realising that he could do something he wasn't supposed to. Then we had to start telling him no and/or be gentle and/or we don't touch that (pictures or tvs or whatever). That stage is not as fun. lol

Easier? I am still waiting and my son is almost 4. Things change, what was a big deal in his first year is so far from my mind.

What worries me more is the school years, when I can't control things. Like what what happens if he comes home from school and tells me no one will sit with him at lunch?

other than that, i think each phase has made certain things easier but at the same time brought new challenges.

6 weeks - Resolved difficult/painful breastfeeding issues. Felt physically healed from birth.

12 weeks - Colic stopped.

Between 11.5 and 16 weeks - Sleep trained and nap trained, so I wasn't spending my entire day trying to get him down.

18 weeks - Started being able to leave him in his jumperoo or on his playmat to play by himself while I made dinner, went to the bathroom, etc.

It's up and down, but on the whole it just keeps getting better!

5-6 months was a huge turning point for us because she consolidated her naps and started taking 2 long ones vs 5 short ones.

At 12.5 months she started STTN and that was a game-changer and made me feel human again.

6 months: when we resleep trained and I was back to getting decent sleep at night

I feel like things are so much easier now! Since about 4.5 months I'd say. We have difficult moments still for sure (last night omg, babe didn't sleep more than 90 mins in a row! Wtf??!) but overall sooooo much easier and more fun now! Each stage gets better and better

Eta I should add, the first 4.5 months weren't equally hard. By 6 weeks we figured out bfing but then she wasn't gaining enough so thing we're super hard around 2 months. Then she started gaining again and things got easier, until the 4 month sleep regression

11 weeks: he night weaned/sttn

by three months, I felt more and more confident and comfortable in my new normal.

by six months, I wasn't obsessed about LO's naps, etc.

I feel like for me things stay about the same level of difficulty then we have big leaps and things get easier. For us so far:

6 weeks- she started smiling and it made the hard stuff a lot more fun

8 weeks- started napping in her crib and sleeping well enough at night that I'd put her to bed and stay up an extra hour. Hello free time!

6 months- some of our eating issues started to resolve quickly and she moved to 4 pretty stress-free bottles per day. Also moved from 4 naps to 3 and I feel like suddenly my whole entire day doesn't revolve (as much) around a strict eating and sleeping routine.
