For DS he didn't consistently sttn til 8-9 mos. But was generally down to one waking at 3-4 m and bed time was consistent at 4m.

DS 2 -- bed time consistent since 2m but at 4m wakeup time varies and he gets up usually once to eat though that time varies.

DS started STTN for 12 hours at 8 months and has been doing so ever since except for during illnesses. My now 8 month old daughter is a different story. I'm not sure when she will STTN.

it's gone back and forth. he would cry for about 15-20 minutes before every single bedtime for god knows how long. around 3 months he started STTN about 11-12 hours. that was awesome, until about 4 or 5 months when he started waking up around 4.30. this went on for a long time, probably until 12 months. then we had a nice stretch. and then at 19 months everything went to hell (mostly for falling asleep). then it went back to being nice. and then at 24 months we hit another bump in the road (again, mostly with falling asleep but we did have a few weeks of early wakeups). so, if i'm being honest i can't say that his night sleep is consistent yet.

He's always been able to go to bed on his own. My ped pounded "drowsy but awake" into my head from week 1.
Wakeups didn't disappear consistently until 4 months when we sleep trained. My ped said he didn't need to wake up at all anymore, told me how to wean him off his final night feed and then had me CIO once his bottles were done. We CIO for 3 nights and he has been pretty consistently 7:30pm to 6:30am ever since. He's nearly 7 months now.

Around 13 months, I could count on her to STTN 6 out of 7 nights of the week, and if she woke up, I could get her back to sleep by rubbing her back and saying, "Shh, night, night." We've had a few hiccups since then due to illness, but she gets back to STTN much more easily than she did as an infant. She also goes to sleep totally on her own now, which still kind of blows my mind.

I was READY for her to fall asleep on her own and STTN by 4 months. I had to nurse/rock to sleep and gingerly transition her to the crib - she couldn't fall asleep on her own - and she was having very frequent wake-ups. During the worst of the 4 month regression, they were every hour. So we sleep trained, but it didn't really work. At 6 months we sleep trained again. And again at 9 months when we moved and she regressed. I honestly can't remember how many times we had to "re-train."

After 6 months, it always "worked," but it wouldn't stick through illness or transitions. I do think we were all better off with more/better sleep, including her. But looking back, STTN was not "her idea" until after she turned one. I was really pushing her.

Oh baby sleep is so frustrating, isn't it? We did the Ferber method of sleep training at 5 months. After that, things were more consistent but still a lot of random night wakings. At 19 months, we still have maybe 2 nights on a good week and 5 nights on a bad week that she wakes once during the night. More than once is usually only if she's sick or teething.

We ended up sleep training at 3.5 months, just so that he'd learn to fall asleep on his own. We never trained for any motn wakings. Since then, he's been very consistent but some nights obviously he needs more cuddles and needs to be more drowsy than awake, hahaha. Once he learned how to fall asleep, he dropped his last wakeup on his own within a month or so. He's 10.5 months.

Totally consistant? I would say closer to two. DS1 no longer wakes up unless he's sick. Before than he would still have random nights when he would wake up.

We only got consistency after sleep training (around 5 months). Before that, it was horrible, she was up sometimes 10x per night. Right after sleep training, she still usually woke 2-3x per night for MOTN nursing but at least I generally knew when she'd wake up. She gradually dropped the nursing sessions one by one and STTN at 10 months or so. She's been pretty good since then (with exceptions for teething or illness).

Just FYI, we tried sleep training too early (around 4 months) and it was a big fail. We tried again a month later and it was like night and day.

After sleep training bedtime became mooooostly consistent, but we still have off nights. As for overnight.... still waiting? We're at 10.5 mo and her sleep seems to ebb and flow. We'll have a week or even a few weeks where she is waking only 1 or 2 times/night. Then she's doing 3-4/night. Then randomly she'll keep me up all night. Then she'll sleep great the next 3 nights. Then she's back to 3 wake ups. Then 1-2. I mean the routine is mostly consistent. Mostly she just needs her paci except the random odd night. But the number of times is still a crap shoot.

LO is 24 weeks (19 weeks adjusted), and we still never know what to expect at night. VERY occasionally, he will fall right to sleep (he had a string of 4 or 5 good nights a few weeks ago, but then regressed). Most nights he'll cry for at least half an hour, sometimes an hour or more (we go in every 15 mins to soothe him and replace paci). And then sometimes he'll sleep 3 - 4 hours before waking to eat, although sometimes 5 or 6 hours. Once, even 7 hours! Basically, I'm saying that every night is a crap shoot. We tried sleep training (extinction method) at the beginning of March, and after 12 very painful nights, it didn't work so we had to stop.

When did your LOs become consistent at night?
