@Mrs. Blue: I want longer naps as well. These 30 min cat naps are for the birds!

Lo organized into 3 naps maybe around 8 weeks but then it all fell apart between 4 and 5 months And he was taking 3 to 4 naps a day. It improved around 5 months and he was consistent with 3 naps a day Then around 7 months He started to transition to two naps today. I would say around six months his Nap times were pretty consistent.

My LO was a chronic catnapper until around 8 months. Now she usually has 2 naps, the morning one is long and the afternoon short. Occasionally she will still have 3 catnaps in a day. She is 9 months old. She has always been a bad mapper but it usually doesn't affect her moods all that much and her nighttime sleep is usually pretty good.

Yep ours weren't consistently longer than 45 minute shorties until 5.5ish. No matter what. I just had to go with it! 2 naps now, which is awesome, but now I have to also work around nursing/solids meals and spacing those. If it's not one thing it's another :)

Ours didn't organize for a *long* time. Maybe around 5 months our daughter started reliably taking 3 naps per day, but the times of naps were all over the place. Even when she dropped down to 2 naps, the naps were short, the timing wasn't the same from day to day, and it was always a fight.

Now finally, starting a little after 1 year, she moved to a 1 nap per day schedule. Naptime begins right after lunch, and DD will actually ask for her nap if we don't get her down right away after lunch.

Our daughter was never a napper though, and she always fought her naps from the very beginning. Hopefully your kiddos are a little easier!

@mrs blue, gotcha. I imagine that is something our ped will mention at her 4 month appt. yay more sleep training lol. Or I will do nothing for 2 more months and assume she works it out at daycare :p

Until 4 or 5 months, I was just constantly putting one down and picking one up. I think we were at 3 naps around 6 months, but only predictable by awake length of about 2-2.5 hrs. We hit 2 naps most days at 8/9 months and the timing got predictable around 10 months when their overnight sleep got more predictable. They also sleep at 9 and 2/2:30. They are 12 mo now and no sign of going to 1 nap yet.

@blackbird: Ours are predictable in the sense that they need a nap about an hour and a half-2 hours after they AT&T eating, but I'm starting to long for. 2-3 longer naps rather than 5 or 6 short naps.

Only when I really focused on it. I usually just went by wake times and sleepy signals til about when she went to 2 naps. But even then I have a window I go by...if I try to force an exact schedule it does not usually go well!

At least 6 months, but 10-11 before I knew we would get predictable lengths as well as times.

Daycare really set his nap schedule. It was "on demand", but around 6-7 months his teacher said she noticed 9 & 2 was working for him and we started doing that at home too. He's 10 months and is still doing 2 naps for about 45 min to 1.5 hours. I think we're going to push his 2nd nap to 2pm though. He's not very tired at 1 these days.

there is a swarm about this, but it focuses on 2 and 1 naps.

for charlie, it was 4.5 months when we sleep trained. up to that point he was taking 4-5 short naps. after sleep training he took 3 naps until 9 months when he dropped to 2.

olive was taking 4 (short) naps for a while until we sleep trained at 8 months, at which point she dropped to 2 naps.

a lot of babies' naps improve naturally after 6 months. i know that sounds so far away!

Mines 16 weeks and while the times are predictable-two hours from last wake up-the length is hit and miss, anywhere from 30 min to 3 hours.

LOs are 4 1/2 mo (3 1/2 adjusted), and they still need to nap for some amount of time in pretty much every 3 hour cycle. Their naps are all over the place in length still.

When did your LO settle into set nap times and when did they go to 3, 2, & 1 nap?
