I think it's totally normal and I actually see kids 2+ crying at daycare drop-off all the time. I think the fact that it's once a week probably doesn't help increase his comfort level. My LO still cries 1-2x a week at daycare drop-off but he is super sensitive to change and there have been a lot of room and staff changes lately.

He does have major stranger anxiety though...I have no worries about him going off with a stranger...or even taking candy from one!

@Mrs. Jacks: yes! I swear after 10 minutes or so C would be happy living with strangers. It really freaks me out. He sees both sets of grandparents around 6 times a year, and obviously doesn't remember them yet, but he's done great with spending the day with each of them recently. l'm grateful for that, but leary of him with strangers.

We started using the Amazing Kids short daycare at the YMCA for an hour or so a couple times a week at 15 months. We were guaranteed about 10 minutes of crying initially. It took until 18-19 months for him to happily go with them to play. Now at 21 months, he runs to them yelling Hi and Bye to us.

@MamaG: how long has she been in daycare?? I feel like even if he was in daycare everyday it would be rough. He is very attached to us. I don't mind at all but it makes it hard to leave him somewhere. He's always fine though as long as we're with him or nearby.

Just recently M has been better. It actually worries me because she's now so friendly with everyone.

We still go through it most days at daycare dropoff and LO is 25 months. This is one of the areas where she was a "late-bloomer". It didn't start for us consistently until closer to 20 months.

It could be because it's a once a week thing rather than every day during the week. Poor J!

I hear it's supposed to end around the 24 mark? Although @T.H.O.U. says otherwise. :P Damnit...i thought the end was in sight.

J is fine when we leave for work, probably because his uncle is his nanny and he is totally fine with him and used to it... But every week as soon as we get to church he immediately starts crying and clinging to me or DH and is sooo upset. He is always fine just minutes after we leave though. It just breaks my heart though! He's been doing this since about 12 months and we go to church weekly, he is 19 months now.

I really hope this ends soon. When did the anxiety end for your child?
