It was given to me when at sometime around 11 weeks I was so dehydrated from throwing up, I had to go to the hospital and get an IV. That was after 2 months straight of not being able to function, get out of bed, care for my toddler, prepare or eat food, drink water, or even shower without passing out/ vomiting. I'm still on it at 16.5 weeks, it's no magic bullet and just makes me throw up a bit less- severe nausea remains untouched. I don't have MS though, I have HG.

I asked for a prescription on the third day of trying to go to work while feeling nauseous all day. I never actually threw up but I have emetophobia and was seriously considering quitting my job because the thought of getting sick at work or on public transit was unbearable. I got Diclectin and it completely took the nausea away.

@BabyBoecksMom: I asked for it at 6 weeks when I was feeling sick, but not throwing up.. Unfortunately I was in Japan and they don't believe in anti nausea meds, so I was given some weird Chinese herbs that were nasty and didn't work.. I puked every day from 8-16 weeks..

@BabyBoecksMom: emetrol shouldn't make you sleepy, the active ingredients are phosphoric acid and sugar. It might be worth a try until you can talk to your doctor.

@BabyBoecksMom: With LO, I spent a lot of time throwing up, feeling horrible, and feeling guilty I was taking medicine (zofran) while pregnant. LO turned out fine, so I stopped feeling guilty about taking anti-nausea medicine prescribed by my OB.

As soon as I started feeling nauseous with LO#2, I got the prescription and started taking zofran again. I do not have time to not be functional, especially when there is an easy (and safe) remedy.

I got a prescription for zofran at my first appointment at 6 weeks. I was horribly nauseous until I was about 18 weeks. I work in elementary education, and wouldn't be able to make a restroom run at a moments notice, so it was a must.

@kiddosc: I'm hesitant to take anything that will make me sleepy because I have narcolepsy (which makes me randomly fall asleep during the day). I can't take my medication for it so I'm trying to avoid anything that will make me more tired and trigger more sleep attacks. Do you only take it at night?

I got Zofran at 5 weeks but had been doing unisom and b6 for a week or so before that. Even with both, I am still nauseous pretty much constantly, but without it, I am unfunctional. I don't throw up much, but this nausea is debilitating.

I would ask. Feel better!!

With my first, I think I asked for zofran at maybe 9 weeks? But I should have just gotten it right away at 6 weeks when it first hit. This time, I asked for it at my first appointment at 7 weeks.
Without meds, I can't function at work. I sit there and all I can concentrate on is the nausea. With meds, I still feel crappy but I can ever do anything else besides sit there and be nauseated.

i didn't take meds because i happened to be at home for a few weeks when the nausea hit, but if i had had to go to work, i probably would have asked after a couple of weeks. if you're feeling miserable, which it sounds like you are, it doesn't hurt to ask. part of it may depend on how comfortable your OB feels in prescribing any medication--but honestly, with all that you've got going on, i would push for it. why feel crappy if you don't have to?

I didn't ask; my OB asked how I was feeling at my first appointment and I told her that I had just spent a 2 hour flight puking into an airsick bag and she wrote me an Rx for Zofran right then and there. ;-)

I'd ask personally as soon as your feel crappy. Women have been using zofran for decades (and it's used all the time to control nausea associated with other conditions); it's safe. Plus there is no guarantee that you'll feel better in a few weeks!

5.5 weeks. I was sick for the first 6 months and the last 6 weeks, so I am glad I went in early. I didn't throw up often but the nausea and dizziness were crushing, and nothing took it away, though Zofran + bonine could put a major dent in it.

Ugh, I am so sorry...I can't even imagine going through morning sickness while taking care of a kid, so, major props to you. I asked about it at my first ultrasound appt which was around 5 weeks or so (was IVF so I had early appts). It didn't magically take away my misery (was still pretty awful) but it took the edge off. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to ask!

I will still comment even though I haven't taken any meds, so I hope you don't mind. I have just been nauseous, no throwing up as well. My doctor actually asked me at my first appointment how bad my nausea was and asked if I wanted something, so I had the option that early in pregnancy (and I am only 6 wks and 5d today) if I wanted meds.

If it is seriously unbearable or you are just tired of it I would ask. Mine has been manageable with crackers and water, and it comes and goes.

The first day I threw up I asked for it (had felt lousy for a week before that and it was lasting all day and all night) but it didn't work and my RE wouldn't give me anything stronger. At 8 weeks :preg I transferred to an OB and she gave me meds that changed my life, lol. They didn't stop me throwing up totally and I had to take them in combination with other meds but I could half function again. Honestly, if you need meds, don't feel bad. Morning sickness can be truly horrendous. Hope you feel better soon

I would say that my morning sickness isn't bad because I haven't actually thrown up yet, but it's all day nausea that is only temporarily relieved with food or ginger candy (like 10-30 min and it comes right back). I can barely get any work done because sitting behind the computer is making me more nauseated. And I am worthless trying to take care of my daughter - she wants to run and play and I can barely get off the couch because the nausea is overwhelming. I feel like it's getting worse instead of leveling off... Now I'm trying to decide if I should just suck it up for the next 3-4 weeks or if I should ask my doctor for some help.

For those that took medicine for morning sickness, when did you decide to ask for it?
