I would probably wait at least 3 or 4 months, only because at 6 weeks I hadn't even started to drop a lot of weight yet. I lost a lot starting around 8 weeks (plateaued about 12-13 weeks).

I never did. It took few months (sad, sad months), but eventually I got back into my pre-pregnancy stuff. I didn't want to waste money on something I wouldn't wear very long.

I waited about 2.5 months when most of the weight that was just going to "fall" off already had. And then I bought two pairs of jeans - a nice pair of skinnies and a pair of a slim boot cut. I spent about $100 for the two but it was SO worth it to feel good about myself! :) After I'm done nursing (and I don't have to worry about my milk supply tanking) I will work out a little more intensely but for now it is nice to have some well-fitting jeans.

I've been on the quest for properly fitting pants since month three. It seems like I just ended up an odd size. Now I'm pregnant again and eagerly awaiting the return of my maternity pants. I think you just have to accept that your body is in the process of changing and you may need to buy a couple times in a year.

I bought new jeans after a few weeks. I went up a few sizes and bought them cheap from Old Navy. It made me feel better to wear clothes that fit, even if the size wasn't what I was used to.

M was born right before Christmas so I bought a pair of "fit me now" pants at the after-Christmas sales. I remember buying my real size pants a few months later.

I had to buy a couple pairs when I went back to work at 13 weeks. Around 8-9 months pp, those were too big but I could fit into my pre-pregnancy work pants again. I never bothered buying new jeans/casual pants, I just wore maternity ones for awhile and then used a hair tie on the button like I had during early pregnancy for awhile longer.

I held off on new clothes until 5-6 months pp. I fit into a few of my pants a few weeks after, and the tighter ones I wore my bellyband with so I didn't have to button them :P

Second time it took me way longer to lose the weight and I think my hips got wider for good :( . But I still held out on buying new clothes until about 3 or 4 months. At around the one year mark I finally fit into my old jeans.

DO IT!!!

I was also in the camp that if my pants fit I wouldn't be motivated to lose the weight but I felt like I looked awful everyday trying to fit in clothes that were too small! Anyway bought a few pairs of pants in a bigger size and its amazing how well fitted clothes make you feel so good!

A few months!!! Like, month 3 i purchased a pair of inexpensive old navy jeans, a size up from my usual size. By month 5, i was able to fit into some old pants. I just wore maternity pants so soon PP and then wore a lot of dresses and such when I went back to work (it was July, so I avoided pants anyways!). I was of the opinion that if i bought all new pants, I would be be less motivated to lose weight because "they look fine".

I bought new pants about 2 months PP and I'm wearing one of them today, so I'm glad I bought them! I needed a few non-maternity things and my old clothes definitely weren't close to fitting.

I am in the camp you look best in clothes that fit correctly, so I bought new pants 6 weeks PP. I was down to my pre-pregnancy weight quickly, but due to a new body shape my old pants just did not work. I started with Old Navy since they were cheap, and eventually gave in and bought some nicer items when the new body shape appeared to be here to stay. If you can afford it, go buy some pants/jeans that fit your new body, you will feel so much better and less frumpy!

It took me longer 2nd time as well. Second time I fit into my old clothes about 4 months pp. I was lucky it was summer so I wore dresses until pants fit. I'd buy a cheap pair of jeans to get me through.

I waited until the end of my maternity leave to buy some new pants to be appropriately dressed once I went back to work, around 3. 5 months PP. But right after I did buy them, maybe a few weeks later, I dropped the last bit of weight I needed to in order to fit back into my pre-preg pants. Womp womp.

I'm 6 weeks postpartum, probably still 10 lbs over my pre-preg weight, but my pants are nowhere close to fitting. I think my hips might be wider this time, but part of the problem is that I bought most of my pants while I was at my all-time lowest weight while I was nursing DD#1 (another 10 lbs below my pre-preg weight). Right now I'm living in maternity pants and leggings, but I'm really ready to see the maternity stuff go, and leggings just don't cut it all the time. With my first pregnancy I was very lucky to fit back into my old clothes within a few weeks, so I haven't experienced this before. How long do I give it before I break down and buy some new jeans?
