I call them by their first names. When we were married, MIL told me I can call them Mom/Dad, but I just never really did. Nothing personal, and they're great, but I've got a Mom & Dad and I'm a little sappy/sentimental when it comes to things like that.

I've never really called them anything specific lo. I dont feel comfortable calling them by their first names they are west african and that would be seen as rude, and Mr and Mrs seems a bit too distant so I just avoid calling them anything lol, but now that LO is here I refer to them as granma and granpa.

I call them by their first names unless our nephews are around (and after our LO is here), then they're Nana and Pops.

I think it would make DH happy if I called them Mom and Dad, but he's satisfied with Nana and Pops (and that I saved their address in our GPS as Mom and Dad).

I don't and won't. I call them by their first names. I've never been comfortable with the notion of calling people 'mom' and 'dad' who aren't my mom and dad. Besides' DH calls his mom Mumsie (which I would NEVER do) and calls his dad by his dad's first name.

When we were dating, they had me call them Mr. and Mrs. LastName. When engaged, we shifted to Mom Lastname and Dad LastName. I dropped the last name and started with just mom and dad at the wedding. Both of our parents made it clear it was important to them, and we grew up seeing them refer to their own in-laws as mom and dad too.

Sadly, we've been married for almost 5 years, and I don't call my IL's anything!! I just say, "Hi!" or wave... pathetic, haha. They don't speak much English, so years ago it was suggested that I call them MIL and FIL in Cantonese. Since I don't speak Cantonese, it just never came easily to me (ok, I don't think I even tried because it seemed so odd), so now I don't call them anything!! Awkward...

I don't yet because it's never really been brought up, but I have a good relationship with them and I too have been wondering if it's something they expect me to do. Mostly I'm really good at avoiding calling anyone by a title or name :). Sometimes I stutter and refer to 'your husband' or 'your wife' when I'm talking to one or the other.

Here's a weirdness though (to me). My husband's ex wife still calls them mom and dad. Now, I understand that she was used to calling them that, but at the same time she only does it when she needs something from them (mostly help in watching the kids) so it feels a little manipulative to me.

Just first names, but the exception is that I add "Momma" before DH's stepmom's first name. She told us that it would mean a lot if we could call her that, and we figured it doesn't harm anything!

I could see myself calling FIL Dad someday...though I'll probably just switch to Grandpa. I'm the same age as his grandkids so I'm used to hearing him called Grandpa. Right now I call him Sir. Don't know why, it just kind of stuck.

I have not yet referred to MIL by any name. It's really awkward. A few years ago I looked at the gift tag on my Christmas present for a clue as to what to call her. It said "To: Oliviaoblivia From: Mrs. Firstname Lastname". No clues there.

more comfortably in the last year (our 2nd year of marriage). the only reason it works is because we call my parents by "appa" and "umma" mom/dad in korean.

even still-- i only call them mom/dad in 3rd person ref either when i'm talking to dh about them, or if i'm talking to one of them about the other. i never directly call them anything STILL and it's been 6 years!
