We have a pediatrician in mind but when I called the office, the secretary said that we technically can't "choose" her until after the baby is born. They said to just call for an appointment once we get home from the hospital. She also does not have privileges at the hospital I'm delivering at so I think I'll have to just choose/be appointed one at the hospital and then set up the appointment with the one we want afterwords. Did this happen with anyone else?

The Dr. we really wanted wasn't accepting new patients so we just picked another one. So far so good!

Maybe you can just find an available pediatrician for purposes of the in-hospital check-up, and later switch to one of the doctors your friends/family recommend once they start accepting new patients?

I was required to pre-register at the university hospital and select my in-hospital pediatrician long before my due date (I did this at 22 weeks). I chose my doctor based on a recommendation from a friend. I figure I can always switch to a different pediatrician if I don't end up liking the practice group after the first few appointments.

I would keep looking into other options just in case. We didn't have to officially pick until we were in the hospital giving birth, so if it's the same for you, you could always ask for the doctor you want and have a backup in case they say no.

When did you choose a pediatrician for your LO? I'm almost 27 weeks now, and am so frustrated because none of the pediatricians my doc and friends have recommended are accepting new patients!
I'm wondering if I should wait and call periodically to check in, or give up and move on to other options. Has anyone else had this problem?
