@bree72: That IS illegal.

We just had Cobi's 12 mos appt and she said legally I can forward face him now, but to try to hold off until 2 years if possible. And he's not quite 20 lbs.

I voted 1.5-2 years but he's still rear-facing at a year... I hope to make it to 2 years, we'll see. We're getting his convertible carseat this coming week.

My tiny girl wasn't made forward facing until 2.5. She still weighs less than 25 lbs so I saw no hurry. Finally when her legs got cramped we switched. AAP recs say two years, so we were going to do at least that.

The internet told us we could turn it around when he was BOTH 1 year old AND 20 lbs. DH is really eager to turn him around so we can interactive with him more during drives, and he's a few ounces shy of 20lbs now, but when we asked our pedi about she told us that we could turn him after a year but we should really wait until 2 years. Turning it earlier than a year feels very unnecessarily dangerous.

Our pediatrician told us at LO's 18 month appointment that we were free to go ahead and flip him if we wanted to, so we flipped one of our carseats around 18 months and the other around 20 months. LO has always been big for his age, so he was way above minimum age/weight requirements.

we just flipped Zoey around. She will be 14 months next week. It's made the car rides better, but didn't solve the crying and boredom completely. She meets the minimum height/weight requirements, but i'm still nervous about her safety.

That is for sure illegal here. I had Ria rear facing until 2.5. When she kicked her seatbelt open one day.

@bree72: Ugh, I hate situations like this. My cousin was on facebook talking about flipping her 10 month old and I wanted to say something but kept my mouth shut. We need some sort of safety brochure I can anonymously mail people.

Pretty sure that's illegal!

With DS we turned him at 1 year (long before the recommendation to stay rear-facing). With P, we'll switch her probably after/when she turns 2.

Ok, so I'm not crazy. I wasn't even sure it was legal, either. She took the trip with her parents, and I can't say for sure that she isn't planning on turning it around now, but her mother mentioned to me a few days ago that she's been forward facing. I just thought she had misspoke until now, when I saw it for myself. The baby is probably 15ish pounds, if I had to wager. I just feel like it's so unsafe. I want to say something, but come on, she has to know. She's a nurse!

We're not there yet, but I plan to wait until at least a year and a half. Hopefully two. 6 months is not legal and not safe at all, and I would have a hard time not saying something.

Wow! That's not safe at all. All the convertible seats I've seen shouldn't be forward faced until the child is 20lbs, that would have to be a large 6mo. old. Besides that, I thought it was the law that you must rear face until one. I've watched a lot of safety crash videos, I plan to rear face as long as possible.

That's not safe! She should wait at LEAST a year. Two is even better.

I've always assumed I'd go as long as I could with my son rear-facing because it is safer than forward facing. He's 10 months and I have no plans on switching him any time soon, even though he hates the car seat and protests rather loudly often.

So, maybe I'm being super judgy, but I was shocked this morning when I saw a friend who just moved across country bought a new convertible seat for her (small) 6 month old and forward faced it. Is this normal? Are people really turning their seats around that early. Thought I'd do a poll.
