With my 1st not until he was STTN, so just after a year (sorry!). My 2nd is 3 months and I already feel close to normal, but I'm still EBF and not back to work yet.

It's been in stages for me. At 4ish weeks, I was like "Yes!! I am me again!" Body recovered, breast feeding established, adjusting to new sleep patterns, beginning to fit into old clothes.
At 4 months, it was time to go back to work and that set me back. 4-9 months were a struggle because I wasn't my "work" self and F is a really poor sleeper.
When I stopped pumping at 12 months, that's when I really felt like I was who I was before pregnancy.
F is closing in on 18 months and I'm sure I'll look back and think "oh you fool, things weren't the way they used to be".

Like a lot of the other posters, I found it came in steps.

Around 2 weeks I felt physically a lot better. No more pain, I could walk normal ( haha ), I had a pretty decent sleeping routine. I was getting used to breastfeeding and figuring out life.

Around 1 month PP I was pretty close or at my pre preg weight, so that emotionally made me feel good. I was getting out lots ( it was summer, so lots of walks, seeing friends, etc) and I was feeling pretty comfortable being a mom.

At 7 months I feel really good. I'm happier then I ever really remember being, even before baby. DD is getting to the age where we can go do things ( like our swimming classes ) and it's enjoyable for both of us. I really love life right now ( probably because I'm still on mat leave ) and feel more 'normal' and comfortable than I ever have.

I feel like it came in waves and with it came acceptance of a new kind of "normal". I did start seeing major improvements around the four month mark when I went back to work. I'm a work horse and I need to work!

Bare bones human again was 3 weeks- as in the worst was healed up. More mentally and emotionally myself was 8 weeks, and slowly better and better until 15 months was about normal (as in I cared about taking care of myself again). I do agree that it is a new normal, I'll never be 100% the same person I was from before kids.

I'm 8 months out and still don't feel normal.

Physically I look normal. I don't feel like I was ever pregnant. But I am still trying to recover from delivery and I'm dealing with some pp blues that I need to work through. I can't wait until I feel like myself again.

I'm 6 months out and I don't think I feel normal yet. I feel good and happy with how my life is, but my hair is still falling out, LO doesn't take a bottle, so I hardly go out, she's still up 2x a night at least, so I've forgotten what a good night's sleep is like. Plus, I'm still on mat leave, so I don't think I'll feel normal until I go back to work.

I think it took about 2 months for my body to feel "normal." Obviously more fluffy but no more weird soreness/pains/etc. Felt ok to wear jeans again, etc.

I think it'll probably be a year though. I still do have the extra weight, and the PP hair loss and hormones drive me CRAZY. I think the BF will take a while to get "'normal" too. I pumped for 3 months and let's just say I was glad to quit!

It really does get better (more towards "normal") every day though.

I hurt down there for at least two weeks. I felt like I got into a BF groove by 4 weeks and was feeling pretty good and like I had things under control by about 6-8 weeks. I was also getting good sleep at that point too, which was huge. Naps were my best friend. Felt like myself as in wearing clothes that made me feel good and feeling like everything is normal? Almost two years.

I had a rough time and while I started to feel like the initial "fog" began to slightly lift earlier on (around 3 months or so when I went back to work), I honestly didn't feel truly like myself until LO was about a year old. I am so sorry to say that, but it was a very hard (but amazing) first year for me.

I went back to work at 10 weeks and while I am obviously sleep deprived and don't really get a second to myself, I do feel more human now. I'm not exactly my old self, but I'd say I'm close. The one aspect thats a bummer still is not having much time with dh, which sucks about being back at work. Other than that though, I'm feeling a whole lot more like myself now that I'm back from maternity leave.

For me it took getting her on a bottle so I got breaks, and it really helps that I have an amazingly supportive husband who makes sure I get at least a few minutes of me time (usually a shower!)

My answer is a lot different then everyone's, but I felt normal pretty much straight away, even my midwife said I didn't seem like I had just had a baby. Of course the sleep depreviation was horrible and I felt like a milk machine but my life still felt normal except I had a sidekick with me all the time.

I felt more human in stages. I had bits of it when I went back to work. Then I really felt good again at 6 months when she was STTN and everything leveled out. Now, I'm 11 months pp and I really feel like the old me. I wasn't totally there until I lost all the weight. I went through stages of feeling good, then frumpy, then back to good. I think stopping pumping was a huge factor though.

It went in phases for me. For the most part, my body felt healed from labor by around 6-8 weeks but it took a long time to bounce back mentally and not feel totally run down. 6 months I felt like I was coping and getting into a groove. 10 months was the point where I'd say I was back to myself. Or, more accurately, I had settled into the new version of myself that was comfortable.

Wow. Well, my answer is significantly different than the majority of those above but I'd say 8 weeks which corresponds to when my stitches had healed up and my breasts stopped hurting so much from BF'ing. I think part of that was just having a mindset of "things will never be exactly the same and that's OK because there is so much beauty in this new normal."

My body is stretch marked and torn up and will never look like it "should" again for the average 23 year old but I know it's beautiful because it made my son. My sleep will probably always be fitful -- between nursing, teething, random wake ups, night terrors as he gets older, and me being a worried momma who has hopes and dreams for him, I know I will still have trouble sleeping even as he is older! I'll never be able to have the same amount of freedom as I did before BUT I now have a little guy who depends on me and loves me just because I am HIS. And as to the nursing for hours day in and day out -- yes. It was so so so hard but I promise it gets better. My son went from being a 45 minute nurser to being a speed nurser who nursed for 5 minutes every three hours!

Anyways -- that's a long drawn out trail of thoughts but yes, to answer that question I had to do some soul searching. :) I don't think I will ever feel like my old self again but I do feel like I'm me again and this new me is so much happier in a different way. And it's in ways I could never have imagined!
