I think we will take her to the mall to show her off but we won't take candy. I just want to put our little 5 month old in a cute outfit and take her around. :)

Our LO will only be 6 months old, but I plan on taking her to the grandparents houses, and probably a few of the neighbors so they can see her. So she'll get lots of coos and attention, and as a bonus, she'll score some candy for momma ;)

We took DD for the first time last year, at 16 months. She had soooooooooo much fun! She caught on after the first house and was literally running from one house to the next. :) She was so excited!

DD didn't really get candy at that age, so we "traded" her candy for little treats (stickers, those cheesy platic Halloween rings, etc...) once we got home. We added her candy to the basket we set on the front porch, and by the time we turned off the porch light and went to bed (around 10), everything was gone!

@regberadaisy: I'm not sure we just hadn't bought her a bucket/bag since we weren't planning to take her out of the driveway where she was sitting with us while we handed out candy. I know I haven't ever had a kid walk up without something to put the candy into and expect to receive candy.

@purrpletulips: I've never been T or T so is no bucket/bag like a sign of we're just t or t for fun, no candy is expected?
I just don't want people to think we're taking her t or t for candy for ourselves so I never planned on it. But if there's a "secret sign" for no candy then maybe we'll go to a few neighbor's houses! Would be a good way to say hi to new neighbors too!

DD was almost 7m at her first Halloween and we only went to the neighbor's houses just because she was dressed up and cute, they didn't offer candy and we didn't ask. Last Halloween DD was almost 19m and we again just went to a few houses but didn't take a bucket with us so while she was given a piece or two of candy I just let her hold it until we got home and then put it into our give away supply. Not sure what we're going to do this year since she'll be 30m but LO will be about 1m.

Our first Halloween my oldest was a week shy of being one and my twins were three months. We took them to a few houses. My oldest held his pumpkin bucket and got two little pieces of candy. They were both soft chocolate so we let him nibble on one of the pieces. The twins we did not collect for.

The next year we went to a few more houses but the boys still didn't really get what was going on. It wasn't until last year (one week shy of three and twins were two and three months)that they actually understood the neighbors were giving them goodies.

@sloaneandpuffy: @regberadaisy: Thanks ladies! I just don't want the neighbors to think that I'm begging for candy for DH and I! I really could care less about the candy, I just want it to be fun for my LO to get dressed up and go see the neighbors.

@artbee: I think it would be fine!
M will only be 6 months so I won't be taking her trick or treating. But next year I will even if I don't give her the candy!

We went last year when my baby was not even one year old. We went with another baby his age (and his mom obv!) and it was fine. The moms ate almost all the candy but I let him have some torn up marshmallows.

I suggest you find someone else to go with (maybe with a bigger kid) and then you won't feel self-conscious.

My Lo will be 15 months when Halloween comes this year. I think she'd enjoy going to the neighbors so they could ooh and aww over her..... she's a sucker for attention and loves to wave and smile at people. She does that when they aren't even looking. But I don't want her to have candy. She doesn't even know what it is and would have fun playing with it in the wrapper.

Would that be weird or rude to go trick or treating if I don't want her to have the candy?
