LO was less than one week old. It felt good to get out of the house! We just go in the early morning or late evening and I watch him for signs he's getting too warm.

The day we got home from the hospital, but that was January. In the summer we usually walk around 9pm when it cools down.

@Bookworm: I'm in north Texas right now visiting my sister and we took a walk yesterday with E in the Ergo. We kept it short because it has been crazy hot, but maybe I can convince DH to take an evening walk if it isn't too soggy still.

First walk was when DS was 3 weeks old in January in Baltimore. I took him out in the car before that, but had a c-section and was worried about doing too much walking myself.

I'd say just keep it short, keep LO shaded and have fun!

We took him out at about 4-5 days old. Just a very short walk because I was so sore. We actually took a walk this morning and it was sooo nice. He's almost 3 weeks old and I'm feeling really good physically. We went at 8 am and it was cool enough. Walks are good for both of you!

The day we got home from the hospital. I would go in the evening, make sure she's shaded, and don't stay out for too long. But getting outside is good for both o fyou!

We took him out our first week home. We just waited until dusk when it was a bit cooler. I felt good (only 1st degree tears) but I couldn't walk far without losing energy. We kept them short and sweet but it was nice for us to get out of the house.

The day I got home from the hospital! Just make sure she's out of the sun and don't stay out long if its super hot. Maybe go later in the day when the sun is setting.

LO is 10 days old today and doing great. I'm feeling pretty decent as well, and am dying to get out of the house. Problem is, it is crazy hot here in Texas in July, so walks for the most part are out of the question. The forecast for the next week, however, has highs in the high 80s/low 90s instead of 99, which means in the evening, it gets down to the low 80s.

I'm still a bit nervous about taking her in the heat, though. The sun would be great for getting rid of her remaining jaundice, but I have no idea how to keep her cool, or if I should even have her outdoors for walks this soon. We have a stroller with a sunshade where she can face me, and I think we'd be outside for about 15 mins or so the first time.

Tips on taking baby for her first walk? On keeping her cool in the summer? When did you take your LO for a walk outdoors?
