She's almost 2 and we've let her read both for quite a while. I just watch her with the paper ones b/c she will occasionally try to rip a page.

We always had regular books but I only started letting LO look at them alone at maybe 18 months. At 20 months she is rarely rough with them.

We're moving more towards regular books recently. All books we buy from 2 on up will be regular books.

We're still using board books at 2 years old plus. We have one book that my brother left at our house when his boys were three years old. LO loves it, but still doesn't handle the pages well. My mom gave us a stack of her books from school. I won't use those regularly until he can handle regular pages better.

I started buying regular books when LO 1 was 14 months old. We hide the paperbacks and flap books from LO 2!

I typically buy the girls board books whenever possible, but I will occasionally buy paper books and let my oldest LO look at them if I'm around and can make sure she doesn't tear them apart. I'm curious what a good age is where I can skip the board books altogether and get regular books.

When did you start transitioning from board books to paper books? If you have not done so already, what age do you think is old enough to know to be gentle with books?
