My contractions started at 1am and I finally went to the birth center at 8pm. My contractions were still all over the place but they were extremely painful and I was so tired. I gave birth 6 hours later.

I called when the contractions were at 5-1-1 and I'd been having strong contractions for about 4 hours. The midwife on call said I could stay at home until I felt like I needed hospital grade pain meds. Lol. I went in when I reached that point and was 4 cm so I went back home for a few hours. When I went back I was 5 cm - had DD about 10 hours later.

My contractions jumped from 8 minutes apart to 3 so I went in then. They were a minute long (or more) and lasted a while. I was checked at the doctor's office first and was at 4cm so she sent me in.

The second time I was induced.

I went in at 4am after we weren't sure if my water broke or not, it had broken but it was a very slow leak, I started contractions in the car on the way.

I was admitted to the hospital at 1cm dilated because of the snowstorm outside and they didn't want to risk sending us home. Baby was born at 430pm

My water broke in the morning and when I called, they said to come in soon so that they could check me. Since I wasn't having contractions when I called though, they said to shower and eat breakfast first, so I did. Contractions started soon after though and by the time we headed in (about 1.5 hrs later), they were already maybe 5 minutes apart. By the time they got me into triage, they were coming every couple minutes. I was stuck in triage for several hours before getting a room in L&D. I got my epi, started pushing, and had my baby within like 3 hours of getting a room in L&D.

With my first, my water broke and I was GBS+ so I went to the hospital for antibiotics and then came home to sleep (was induced in the morning).

With my second, I basically waited until I couldn't cope anymore, which was pretty much 5-1-1. I was 6cm when I got to the hospital and I delivered our baby about 45 mins after we arrived

My contractions were 3 1/2 minutes apart, and over a minute long for like 2 1/2 hours. I was only 1 cm dilated!! Apparently I have a cervix of steel lol the on call Dr saw something weird with lo's heartbeat, so she offered pitocin and to keep me. So I stayed. Ended up with a c-section because baby's heart rate kept dropping, the cord was wrapped over her shoulder and around her neck, but she's good now

With my first I got to 5-1-1 but they weren't that awful, so I called and the midwife suggested waiting until they were really intense. I did, headed in a few hours after that. Felt like it was good timing, had baby like 4 hours after arriving?

With my second if I had waited for 5-1-1 I would have had her at home. I called when the contractions were regular but not super painful, by the time the midwife called back I could hardly talk through them. Waited until Bil got there to watch the toddler and rushed to the hospital. Had baby about 45 minutes after parking. I was moaning loud through contractions so people would be pointing the way to labor and delivery as we turned the next corner.

For my 2nd kid, I got an app and timed them. When I would "forget" to start or stop them, I knew I was okay. Several hours later they were rating a 3-4 on a personal pain scale (and pretty distracting, although not painful) and 2-4 minutes apart. I went to the hospital after only 30 minutes of that. I had the baby about 90 minutes after heading toward the hospital.

@sapphire: the not being able to talk through them was another rule I heard but even being in labor twice I have no idea what that means. I had semi mild contractions for 25 hours with my first and stayed home but even though they weren't terrible I never wanted to talk through them. At the same time I could talk through them and even when they were a lot more intense it might have been more yell talking but it's not like I ever lost my voice. I donno I couldn't figure that one out.

My water broke before I had any contractions but I was scheduled to be induced the next morning so we weren't too worried. Water broke around 9:30 pm, contractions started around 11:30 pm, went to the hospital around 3 am when I was consistently having contractions. They weren't super bad but I didn't want to risk waiting too long and being in tons of pain and I knew they wouldn't send me home due to my water breaking and my scheduled induction.

@mrsrain: Same! I wanted to be home as long as I could, but then ended up being in transition as we headed to the hospital. The drive over and waiting to be admitted in triage were excruciating.

I'd had timeable Braxton hicks for weeks. My water broke at 2:15 am, contractions got intense shortly after that, we got to the hospital just before 7am, baby was born just after 9am.

I was GBS positive so had to go when my water spontaneously broke, that made it a lot less confusing since it was a cut-and-dry answer.

In our Bradley class we were encouraged to think of it as "it's up to you" to go or not go once you hit 4-1-1 (a slightly higher bar than 5-1-1). Bradley method really emphasizes laboring at home as long as possible to minimize the chance of getting sent home and/or people pushing interventions. I'm glad we didn't do that though since my labor was only 2 hours so I would have been in INTENNNNSE late-stage labor on the drive to the hospital if we had tried to wait!

I called when they were 5-1-1, and the nurse I talked to listened to my voice and then told me to wait an hour and call back. An hour later she told me to come in, but my labor stalled...contractions stopped. They gave me the option of staying there for a few hours to see if they picked back up, but I opted to go home so my mom and D could rest (I was also very frustrated). My contractions started back up (and way, way worse) literally before we got out of the hospital, but I had just been told I wasn't in active labor, so I went home. 2 hours laboring at home with terrible back labor, I finally decided that if it wasn't real labor that something was wrong, so we went back in without calling first. I had progressed from 2-5cm since being there 2 hours before.

With my second my plan had basically been "I'll wait at home until the pain is so bad I can't think through it" but she ended up being a planned C-section because she was breech.

When the contractions had been about 4 mins apart for a few hours and I wasn't able to talk through them anymore. Turns out I was only 2 cm so I could have stayed home longer but I changed about 1 cm per hour while at the hospital so they admitted me and I was able to start laboring in the tub which helped immensely.

I went to the hospital about three hours after I felt a pop and my water started leaking. I was in so much pain. I couldn't figure out how to time the contractions because it felt like they were right on top of each other (which later I would find out they were! Even the nurses were surprised at how quickly they were coming for a first labor). 6.5 hours after I got to the hospital I was 10cm, I labored down for an hour and then pushed for 3 hours.

I had no contractions until my water broke, and they started hard and fast (a minute long and 3 minutes apart). We were convinced they weren't the real deal yet (we are idiots, apparently) and waited about four hours before we went in. My midwife and doula listened to me contracting over the phone and decided it was time. I showed up to the hospital, 4.5 - 5 hours into labor, 10cm dilated. Oops.

I'm not really sure, I had been in labor for 24 hours, it was around 10pm or so when we left. I had called the hospital probably around 6 or 7pm and the midwife told me to stay home. My contractions were all over the place, some coming right on top of each other and then I would have a longer break. But I had been up since labor had started, was puking, couldn't sleep and was really starting to lose it. I made my husband call and they told us to come in. I was only 2 cm when I go there
They told me I could labor a while in triage and hooked me up to monitor me. I really have no idea what happened or why the decided to admit me (they never checked again before admitting) but all the sudden after prob 2 hours in triage the nurse comes in and is like so you want that epidural?

Anyway, my huge mistake was getting too excited by early labor and not sleeping when I definitely could have at that point :/ I also didn't know anything about back labor (baby turned out to be posterior) and how it could cause irregular contractions, if I had know I might have handled the situation better and been able to stay home longer.

My labours were both so weird. My water breaks and then I have contractions 2 minutes apart. But the contractions aren't super strong. With my first I laboured at home for about 4 hours but my midwife came at the 2 hour mark and she was the one who made the decision to go in when we did.

With my second, they were a little worried things would happen extremely fast so I didn't end up labouring at home at all.

For my first labor I tried to go 5-1-1.. But like@Maysprout: I had so much trouble timing them!? Thy were kind of inconsistent and I had trouble gauging intensity. I called an said I think they might be 4-1-1 at around 4am.. Nurse said to come in.. But I waited a bit longer at 5am to wake hubby up.. As he was brushing his teeth and getting stuff ready I felt the urge to push so we rushed out panicking. Hurried to L&D and pushed baby out in 5 min!

For my second labor it was easier to time them.. It was definitely 4-1-1. I called again around 4am.. Hospital wanted me to wait an hour more or so?? I said "for my first labor I barely made it to te hospital. I'm sorry but I don't want to take chances and give birth in the car." Then she admitted all hospitals are packed that weekend (weekend for giving birth I guess!) but told me they'll make room for me. So I woke husband up, he called my mil so she could stay w my sleeping son. We were waiting for her packing our stuff when I just had a feeling it was close.. We left a key under te door and left. Didn't even make it to our hospital 15 min away we went to the county hospital 5 min away and she was crowning as I was being wheeled to L&D and was born right as we entered at 5;49am- less than 3 hour labor 😑.

Moral of the story: it's nice to labor at home.. But if u suspect at all labor might be fast JUST GO SOON!!
