But it was also really special. And I took comfort that I must have been low risk enough to not need extra ultrasounds. I tried to request one, but they said with insurance changes, most insurances won't cover one at this point unless it is medically necessary. I'm totally bummed and plan to call my ins. co to find out what they cover. Otherwise, my first ultrasound would have been at 12 weeks, and only because I was doing the first trimester screening! If I had opted out of the screening, I wouldn't have gotten an ultrasound until 20 weeks when they do the anatomy scan! Ill get one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks. That's the normal procedure here unless you have bleeding or previous miscarriage. I had had a recent-ish miscarriage so it was a dating/viability scan (and a peace of mind scan, for us...I imagine she could tell how on-edge we both were). RE wanted to see that the sac was in the right place this time. 6 wks for a hb, then 10 wks to regular OB for general check up and dating u/s.
