the midwife was able to find it at my last appointment, and I was 9 weeks at the time.

I had my first visit at 8+4, and the NP said that she would try to listen to heartbeat if we promised not to be disappointed or worried if she couldn't find it. :silly:

We were not able to hear the heartbeat at that appointment, but saw it on an ultrasound about a week and a half later (due to a little spotting), and then heard it on Doppler at 12-ish weeks.

It is *possible* starting at about 9 weeks, it isn't especially easy until about 14 weeks. Finding it earlier tends to be easier the thinner you are.

With my first 2 kids about 8-9 weeks. With this one i didnt hear it till 11 week. It took forever to find. She liked to hide when she was smaller. At my 2nd appointment they couldn't find her on the doppler so they did a quick ultrasound and she was there and healthy. Just hiding lol

9+5 with my Doppler. 10 by a midwife for two pregnancies and one she couldn’t find it at my 10 week (but I had already found it at home at 9+5), but did at my next one at 15 weeks. They try at 10 weeks for me, but always say “we might not be able to hear it this early, do you still want us to try?”

Heard a heartbeat on doppler at around 10+4 at my first regular ob appt, prior to that I got TV ultrasounds at the RE so they could find the heartbeat easily.

Not until 10+ weeks, and even then my midwife didn't want to try quite yet because there was a good chance it was too early. I asked her to try anyway and promised not to freak out if she didn't find it. It took her quite a while but she did find it. She said 11+ weeks is more reliable but sometimes it's hard even after 12 weeks since they're tucked so low in the pelvis.

I have my first appt at 8+4 tomorrow. No ultrasound until next week I assume, since I'm seeing an independent midwife and will have to go elsewhere for an ultrasound, but I'm wondering at what appointment did your OB/midwife start listening for a heartbeat? I don't remember this but do know I had my first ultrasound at my first appointment last time.
