I also gained about 50 pounds. I lost 30 pounds by one month pospartum, and did not loose any more weight until 7.5 months, when I started really making an effort. Since then, I have been losing weight slowly. It also goes down in bursts. At 13 months postpartum, I am up about five pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. Early on, weight loss was a relatively low priority for me, and I was hoping I would magically lose weight. I bought a bunch of new clothes when I went back to work, which was really worthwhile in helping me feel better. Breastfeeding burns a lot of calories for me, but also makes me really hungry. Also, sleep deprivation makes it impossible to lose weight, because it saps my will power.

I think I hit a plateau around 3 months PP.

I gained about 40-43 lbs. 2 weeks PP I was down to about 17 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight (so dropped about 25lbs between birth, placenta, fluids, blood, etc those first 2 weeks).

I worked out starting at about 3 weeks pp (yeah, I enjoy working out!) and I lost maybe 3 lbs or so more by 2 months PP. So I hardly lost anything those first 2 months (aside from birthing stuff)

Then I dropped about 10 lbs in a month! I wasn't working out as much as I was over maternity leave either (went back when she was 9 weeks). My baby is 5 mo and I've been about 3 lbs up from my pregnancy weight since about 3 mo pp. I'm thrilled to be so close to my prepregnancy weight (don't get my wrong! though my pregnancy weight was about 3lbs above my normal weight to begin with...so I'd still like to drop another 6 lbs or so) but the lbs won't seem to budge anymore.

Still EBF/pumping.

Are you 3 mo pp? I've always heard around 3-4 mo is when some women will lose a bunch of weight from BFing, even though there are plenty that will hold onto weight...

I've hit several plateaus. My body will hang on for a few weeks or months, and then I'll drop a bit, and its just a pattern. SO frustrating.

I hit two plateaus unfortunately. One a few weeks after delivery (gained about 40 during pregnancy, lost 20ish right away). It took a good 6 months to loose the last 20 (and some), then I plateaued. But.. now I'm pregnant so I get to go through the cycle again! yay! : |

Comforting to hear others haven't lost all the weight yet. Seems Like everyone on here normally has only 2-3 pounds left to lose and that made me feel like such a freak. I have heaps to lose slowly but surely will get there. But yes I'm in the exact same boat. After first month or two it stopped :(

I do think breast feeding has something to do for it. I did read somewhere that for every breastfeeding woman out there who is losing heaps of weight there is one who isn't losing any at all. Increased hunger and body holding onto the weight. Also I think it changes your bodies balance. I've been breastfeeding for 2.5 years straight now, two kids and which for 5 months was tandem feeding and no I didn't lose weight. Even breastfed my whole second pregnancy except for 2 months where my milk dried up when I was 12 weeks pregnant, in that same week I nearly lost 10 pounds by doing nothing. My colostrum came in around 5 months pregnant and my toddler was back on it again so I really don't know anymore.

Once DS2 is 1, this time I'll be weaning because I really want my body back. I also want to go to town on medicine when sick and drink 10 coffees in a row if I want to :)

I gained 41lbs, lost 15lbs in the first two weeks, 10lbs more by 2 months, and stalled from month 2 to month 6, despite EBF, running a half marathon, and working out for an hour 5x a week. I lost 6 lbs from month 6, though!

I gained 50 lbs while pregnant, and lost 20 by the time my LO was 6 months old. My LO is 16 months old now and I have still not lost the last 30 pounds. In fact I just keep gaining and losing the same 3 pounds.

@Sapphiresun: You may be onto something there...I swear I have to take Excedrin every single day for my constant headaches and migraines. Usually twice a day. And the jogging stroller hasn't left the doorway, so walks are not happening.

I gained 16lbs while pregnant, and lost 25 by my 6 week appt. Then I took a year Mat leave and gained 35, because my kid refused to sleep (seriously no more than two hours at a time for the first 10 months) so I replaced sleep with caffeine, sugar and Tylenol so my constant headaches stayed at bay, and always felt way to shitty to do exercise better than a stroller walk.. so I'm currently 10 lbs over my highest pregnancy weight, and it doesn't budge no matter what I do now.

I lost about 22 lbs of 40 easily and then another 5 slowly in the first 2 months. After that I was stuck until I recently had to eliminate dairy, soy, and wheat from my diet. I've lost another 5 lbs and seems to be slowly but surely getting back to my pre-prego weight. 7 pounds to go but only about 3-4 until I hit a comfortable weight. I am just over 4 months pp.

I plateaued about 2.5 months post partum but then the holiday season ended, I went back to work, LO started sleeping better, and then I started losing again. I think I really stopped losing at around 6 months, and now I'm about 5 lbs below my pre-preg weight. I am still breastfeeding and I have to eat a ton to keep my supply up, but I am also on an MSPI diet, so that might be why I lost more than I expected.

I gained around 33 lbs I think, and I lost half with the birth, and still had half hanging around by my 6 week appt. I'm normally pretty small and I'm only 5'4, so and extra 16 or 17 lbs is a lot. I had been living in yoga pants and my husband's tshirts so I wasn't really thinking too much about it, but when the scale at my OB's office shouted at me that I was only halfway there, I kind of panicked. I started eating paleo in the next couple of days, and I started 30DS. I didn't want to have to buy new clothes to go back to work. I think I lost 5 lbs in the first week, but within 3 weeks, the weight was gone and I was actually a few lbs smaller than I was before I got pregnant. FFW a few more months of BFing, and eventually I got a few more lbs lighter. I did gain a couple of lbs back when I weaned at 1 year, but I was really happy with my weight, and had actually gotten too thin, so it all worked out. I wholeheartedly recommend doing Paleo at least temporarily because it was such an amazing weight loss kicker!!!

I gained about 35 pounds and lost 20 of it by 3 months. Then I hit a plateau until 5 months when I got very sick and lost 10 pounds. I gained 5 back and have been stuck ever since. I'm exercising, eating fairly decently too, but if I don't eat enough my supply takes a hit.

I gained about 40 pounds and lost most of it right away like you. Right now I'm 11 weeks pp and have about 8-10 pounds to go to feel good. Was super discouraged at 10 weeks when I had my IUD placed that I hadn't lost anything since my 6 week pp appointment. Probably won't weigh myself again but I do go back for my annual in a month so hopefully will have made some progress.
For me I think running is the only thing that is going to do it, but I've tried a couple of times and it still isn't super comfortable yet. Hoping it gets better soon!

I plateaued around two months PP. I gained 30, DD was 10.5, and then I lost another 12-ish and im hanging on hard to those last 5-7 lbs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's definitely noticeable and distributed much differently than pre-baby. Granted, I haven't started exercising again, I think that would help a lot.

I think about 25 minutes after delivery. Seriously, it was terrible. Granted, I ate very badly after my first was born (she was born on Halloween night-I took it upon myself to eat all the candy we had purchased to give out!), but I spent a year working out HARD and it was like cement on my body.
Finally, at about a year some more came off. Then I got knocked up again. The second time around it was easier but I am still a solid 20 lbs heavier than I was before I had my first!

I gained 44, and lost 30 in the first 10 weeks without much effort or dieting. Then the last 3 weeks I've barely lost a pound, despite being more conscious of what I'm eating. So at 13 weeks PP I'm a little over 10 pounds up, and I'd say I plateaued at 10 weeks. I need to get serious about eating better because once I go back to work all bets are off. I find that my diet accounts for 85% of my weight, while exercise has more marginal benefits -- though obviously exercise has all kinds of non-weight related benefits.

I plauteaued at 6 weeks, 10 lbs over my starting weight and it never came off, despite dieting, breastfeeding, and working out religiously with a personal trainer. My only consolation is that now, pregnant with #2, I haven't gained any weight yet at 9 weeks, and I gained a good 10 lbs in the first tri with my first.

i won't be very reassuring as i hit a plateau maybe around 5 months, then gained some back and i am almost 2 years pp :) I don't call it baby weight anymore though, i just need to make some lifestyle changes. Basically, i never lost it all. I had gained 45 pounds while pregnant and i am about 30 above my prepreg weight.

I hit a plateau around 2 mo pp. I lost 13 lbs in the hospital before coming home (well, I carried 8 of those lbs home with me :) ) and lost another 15 in the first 2 mo. Since then I've only lost 2 lb in 2 mo.

@MrsMccarthy: I guess it is true! Which gives me until next spring to lose the rest. Sometimes I think that if I start running again it might kick-start the weight loss again but I don't know when I'd figure that out.
