In the hospital. Day 2 (day 1 was only 30 minutes with me!).
It's up to you, it's your LO.

My lactation consultant had us giving a bottle a day to LO from Day 1 to get him used to it, and to ensure that I had a little time off if I needed it. She also had me pumping a lot from the very beginning to get my supply going and to build up a really good freezer stash before going back to work. I'd repeat both of those things with #2.

From day 2 b/c he was jaundice and my milk didn't come in until that evening and it wasn't enough for him to help him with the jaundice. At 4 months now I still give him one 1 oz. bottle (of formula) after I nurse him for the last before bed time. In my mind it's suppose to help him sleep a little longer. I probably don't need to but want him to get used to a nipple besides mine. :)

My recommendation is to stick to a newborn or stage 1 type of nipple so it's harder to suck. That way he still works almost the same way for that nipple as he does yours. I like the Playtex Drop-ins for bottles. :)

Day 1. Literally, day 1. Liv never had a problem or preference from one to the othee except with me. After while, she only liked to nurse with me and wouldnt take a bottle. Guess she liked the cuddles :)

1 week. And no nipple confusion! She is ebfed and we try to give her a bottle at least a couple times a week because she prefers the breast (most babies do) and will go on a bottle strike.

Remember, your baby is more likely to never take a bottle because you introduced one too late than to not take the boob because you introduced bottle too early.

day 1 for both kids. at 10 months, olive still doesn't like the bottle and will only take it from her nanny.

i personally don't think you need to wait a month, and would introduce a bottle early!

Day 1. she had low blood sugar. She never really got nipple confusion, but when I started exclusively breastfeeding for a while she developed a preference for the breast and refused to take the bottle, it took about a month and trying several different bottles and nipples to get her to drink from a bottle again.

We waited until 4 weeks partly to avoid nipple confusion and partly because we didn't really think about it until then. We didn't have any problems switching back and forth, but she will only take the mOmma bottles.

My BFF just had her baby about 10 days ago. Her milk took some time to come in so she introduced a bottle right away so she could supplement with formula. When her milk did come in her LO had NO issues breastfeeding. If I were in your place and felt that breastfeeding was well established I probably would be willing to go ahead and giving pumping and bottle feeding a try just so you can get a break.

I had to introduce a bottle very early because my milk didn't come in on time, so my LO was just a couple of days old. I wasn't prepared for that so I didn't do my research and just used drop in bottles, so she quickly got lazy and didn't want to breastfeed anymore. But I was able to get her back on the breast after switching to breastflow bottles.

So my mother is staying with us for about a month (maybe) and she is insisting that I should try pumping at least one bottle at a time to allow me to rest a bit more if the baby should get hungry while she's watching him. This sounds like a fine plan to me, if it wasn't for the fact that he is only 10 days old. I wonder if it is too early for this? He's breastfeeding just fine in my opinion, but I'm slightly hesitant. It might be a silly reason, but I'm afraid he'll get too gassy from the bottle! And, I haven't investigated whether we have the right nipple flow for his bottle yet. I do of course plan to introduce a bottle to him, but just wondering if it's too soon! When did you introduce a bottle to your LO? Was it too soon? Did it affect your breastfeeding?
