@78h2o: haha, I let O sleep with two A+A blankets too! she usually ends up with them on her like your LO. She's 6.5 months, and I've been letting her for about a month now. it took me awhile to let her overnight, but she is definitely one of those kids that I think needs to feel secure with a blanket. I know I can't just sleep "open" without a blanket either :)

@Sammyfab: oh that is a GREAT helpful tip about introducing it while nursing! We do have a couple of trips planned for the summer and love to travel in general. Having a soothing item while traveling would probably help!

I'm going to start trying to introduce something anything when she can start grasping things intentionally.

We haven't at seven months..but there are certain things she likes that could act as a lovey.. I don't think you necessarily have to introduce a lovey as a lovey.

@shopaholic: I definitely think it's both a sleep cue and a major comfort item for my LO. He really loves to snuggle his lovey and he developed a major attachment to it when we were traveling last month. He rarely wakes in the middle of the night but last month he woke up 3 times and screamed bloody murder because he couldn't find his lovey. As soon as I gave it back to him he calmed down and fell right back asleep. I do worry that he'll never be able to sleep without this lovey but it's considered a positive sleep association so I will try not to worry about it too much now!

I also hear you about the backup lovey. I just can't seem to find a second one that is the exact same as the one he loves. So I totally recommend starting with something you already have 2 of! Another recommendation is to have K snuggle with a lovey while you're nursing her. That way she will have a positive association with it AND it will smell like you!

@Sammyfab: that's a great explanation "as a sleep cue". I would love to have her have a sleep cue eventually! I thought they were something mor for just soothing and comfort only.

Makes sense you can't control what they choose. It would be nice if it is something we could get at least a backup for, but looks like we still have some time if she's even going to want a lovey or not. I feel like she will benefit though if she can attach herself to something (besides me and my boobs!) eventually.

We introduced one around 4 months but he didn't become attached until 6 months when he became more mobile in his crib. It's a major sleep cue for him and he needs to snuggle it to fall asleep.

I've tried introducing other loveys because we only have one of his favourites but he tosses them aside. I think you could try anything as a "lovey" (e.g. Stuffed animal, security blanket, tagging blanket, etc.) but you can't control what your LO chooses to become attached to :).

DD and DS both had copious numbers of loveys available to them but didn't really latch onto anything until well over 1 yr. Maybe like 14 or 15 months. Even now, DS has several items that would be acceptable...

We put an Angel Dear blanket in with him when we moved him into his crib at 5.5 months. He chews on it sometimes but for the most part doesn't seem to care much. He does love the Gentle Giraffe, though. He's always burrowing into it in his sleep

This is a great question... I had a lovey for years and years (til about maybe 6?), as did my brother! Good to know you can introduce them early on.

Around 3.5 months. She loves both A&A blankets and her Sleep Sheep. I'm probably going to get her an A&A lovey soon...

I usually let my LO sleep with a A&A blanket that's partially tucked under the mattress. It seems breathable enough and she loves feeling it...I can definitely tell she is more relaxed/secure with a blanket to feel. She also loves her sleep sheep. I usually let her nap with it since I'm watching her on the monitor (and she wears a Snuza alarm, just in case)... she sleeps with her arm around it and sort of pets it... it's very cute. She will stop crying if I put it in bed with her!

Maybe she's more into blankets/sleep sheep because she never took a paci?

Here's a picture from when she was napping the the pack-n-play one day. (Ignore the fact that it looks like a SIDS what-not-to-do photo... I was watching her! :))

[attach=2480/13/ml86z1.448x335.nap.JPG]

ETA: She has actually had the sleep sheep and A&A blankets since birth, but it was only recently that I let her have them in her bed with her at times.

At 5.5 months...we have the angel dear loveies but I was too nervous to put them in the crib because they're thick and plush. So we use an a&a security blanket and he really seems to like it. I started by holding it by his face when I nursed him and then put it in his hands in the crib. Now he rubs his face on it and cuddles with it.

We have two carters version of the angel dear blankies. I always kept one in the diaper bag as an 'on the go' toy and one in her crib once she had graduated to the sleep sack. She now has both of them in bed with her (that's mostly where they stay) and in the morning when she wakes up she turns on her aquarium and plays with Ellen the Elephant. When she's ready for us she tosses Ellen to the floor and squaks for us to get her. I don't know if she's super attached, but they keep her happy.

I put the blanket DS loves on him from the day he was born. My gramma made it for me as a shower gift when I was pregnant with him. He loves it and knows that my gramma made it for him.

He also has a stuffed cow that he loves very much. it's all kinds of worn out, lol.

I think that most kids generally just pick what they love at some point and go with it.

Loveys are something I only learned about on HB. And it seems Angel Dear ones are the most popular.

When do you introduce a lovey and how is it different than a favorite stuffed animal or beloved blankie? I do like how a lot of you say the Angel Dears are good bc you can order multiples of them.
