This is such good info to know! Our LO is one week today and she constantly wants to have something in her mouth. We'd been discouraged from using a pacifier of any kind until the baby is at least six weeks old (to prevent interference issues with breastfeeding) but she always, always has her hands in her mouth and I can't help but feel as though a pacifier would be really soothing for her.

Side question - when do you use the pacifier? At sleep times? Whilst LO is awake and fussy? After a feed? Sorry, still so new to this and so many questions!

I think 3 or 4 days old? She's only ever taken the Tommee Tippee ones, and she has no problem nursing or with her latch.

Our LO was given one right away in NICU. I think they give it to preemies so they can learn to suck.

He got it within an hour of birth, due to resuscitation measures used he needed blood work and they gave a soother dipped in glucose water for pain control. We only used it for blood work while in hospital, once we got home we only used it when all other soothing measures failed (so a couple times per day). It didn't interfere with breastfeeding, but he is a soother addict now!

I introduced at 4 weeks, which I had been told is the time to wait so it doesn't interfere with breastfeeding. We have a mam. He LOVED it for one week. Then it was very useful for another 3 weeks. Was especially helpful to soothe at the 2 month shots. But then the next week or so later he totally rejected it, and I haven't been able to get him to take it for more than a week (10 weeks old now).

Give it a whirl and enjoy it while it lasts.....and it may last for a long time, unlike for me.

We introduced them around a week, but she didn't really take to them for a while. We started w/ Soothies, and they would always fall out. Now we use MAM, and she loves them!

While we were at the hospital I noticed a pacified in her little crib, I think the nurses tried to give it to her in the nursery on day 2 but it fell out of her mouth. we tried a few times when we came home in the 2nd week but she didnt seem to like it at all. we waited a few weeks and tried two different brands before we found one that worked but she still cant keep it in her mout for very long.

About a week old and she's still awful at keeping it in. Our hospital was baby-friendly so we weren't given any there. We tried Nuks first but had better luck with MAMs.

our LO wanted to suck on something literally 24 hrs after he came into this world. it was so bad, my husband had to run and get a paci bc the hospital didn't have any. sometimes, it's instinctual.

we didn't have many options at the drugstore across from our hospital. we got some basic platex one, but i heard that most newborns like soothies.

Day 1 in the hospital. LO is a big sucker so they helped soothe her. We started with Nuk in the hospital and also used Soothies. I dont think she had much of a preference, though now she only takes them when she's really upset and we kinda have to hold it in her mouth at first before she starts sucking. Usually she just gives us this pissed off look like "what the hell is this?" when we try to give it to her.

One week. We use the avent soother (hospital one) and had absolutely no issues with breastfeeding. Our doctor said to make sure to use a pacifier with a straight nipple (not those orthodontic ones that kind of curve up) to avoid any latch issues.

Day 1 for us too! I didn't mind them giving him a pacifier at the hospital. He weaned himself off of it with no problems. We gave him the soothie pacifier from the hospital and that's the one he liked the best. I've heard good things about the MAM ones too.

We saw the pediatrician yesterday and he suggested we consider offering M a pacifier when she's fussy/waiting for a feeding. She's 2 weeks old.

When did you introduce a pacifier? What type did you use?
