As soon as the pediatrician said, "try a paci..." We put that thing in her mouth and she stopped crying immediately. It was amazing. My husband got to say, "I told you so." :)

At the hospital. N had latch problems but only because of physical malformation.

ETA: He didn't really start wanting it until he was 8 weeks.

LO was introduced paci when he was in NICU, right after he was taken of CPAP. It helped teach him how to suck and swallow. We had no issues with breastfeeding.

I was really nervous about it but I broke down at 2 or 3 weeks. It was definitely the right choice for us and DD.

2.5 weeks - it's the only thing that got him to breastfeed successfully! He loved to suck HARD

Around 2-3 weeks, the comfort nursing was getting insane and breastfeeding was VERY painful to me so we started using it sparingly around then. Then more hardcore maybe around 8 weeks? Once we could be sure he wasn't cluster feeding anymore. It helps him sleep.

Both of our kids were given a pacifier in the hospital a few hours after birth. (We ok'ed it with the nurses beforehand). They both breastfed with no major problems, and the pacifier definitely helped soothe them. I am a fan.

That said, if we had had initial latching problems, I probably would have held off a bit more.

We waited until 8 weeks at the advice of our LC due to initial latch issues. She wanted us to wait until we had no latch issues for four weeks before we introduced it. Looking back we probably could have used it earlier on.

In the hospital. The nurses gave her one. We were at a very baby-friendly hospital with lactation consultants, etc. introducing it so early didn't give us any issues. My LO is still breastfeeding at almost 7 months old and uses her paci to fall asleep.

i think we introduced one around 3 weeks as well. then we cut him off at 11 weeks because he was using it to fall asleep, but it would take forever for him to fall asleep, and during that lengthy process the pacifier would fall out 50 times and we would have to replace it.

We gave it to him when we left the hospital, but he didn't take it until after the first week!

At almost 6 months, he's gone from using it as his soother before he found his thumb, to only using it sparingly for car rides or naps sometimes.

(No issues bfing)

@sslm: Uh, in the hospital! We could not get him to stop crying, and my boobs needed a break after 3-4 hours of nonstop nursing, so we asked the nurse for a paci.

ETA: We have never had any issues w/breastfeeding, nipple confusion, etc. His latch has been perfect since the get-go.
