Neither of us or our families have a history of allergies so we just introduced anything and everything.

@sunny: I gave DD creamy peanut butter on toast.

I introduced them all by 8 months or so. The only thing I held off on was honey.

@sunny: The first time we just spread some natural peanut butter on homemade teething biscuits and let him chew it. We've also mixed it into some quinoa cereal. We did the same thing for other nut butters (like almond butter and cashew butter). We just watched him extra closely the first couple of times he had each nut butter. I'm not familiar with bamba - sorry!

@sunny: i got peanut butter from a store that grinds it fresh. We stared with a smear on my finger that she licked off, then increased to a baby spoon full over the next few days.

For those of you who introduced peanuts early, how did you do it? Did you take any special precautions (e.g. have benadryl on hand)? Did you try bamba? Did you try peanut butter (Plain or diluted with anything)?

I'm nervous! I want to do this soon. LO is 10 months and we haven't tried any of the major allergens yet.

We had read the preliminary research conclusions on this and so were proactive about introducing them as soon as we felt she could effectively chew and swallow them. I would definitely be offering her peanut butter and eggs by that age.

We did peanut butter first but any other foods weren't at any specific time, just whenever we had them as part of our meals. No family history of allergies either.

@mrswin: same, honey was the only thing I waited for a specified time.

@atoz: We introduced them as they came up in something we were eating. The only rule we followed was no honey before 1 because of the botulism risks. Our doctor said that the new recommendations suggest not delaying introduction for any reason. There are no significant allergies on either side of our family which increased our comfort level. As soon as we started solids I made sure to have Benadryl on hand and asked the Dr about dosage just incase.

We don't have a history of allergies either (though my LO was allergic to cow's milk). Even still, our doc recommended BLW starting at 6 months, or once baby could sit unassisted, and introducing all foods (even allergy risk foods) on a normal basis. She also said there wasn't a need to introduce 1 food at a time (or you'd still be introducing foods at 2+ years old). We were told we could come to her office if we were nervous about a certain food (and test it there).

As soon as possible. A lot of new research recommends that earlier introduction may help avoid future allergies.

7 months, but I wanted to wait until 8. DH gave DD a bite of pad Thai while on a cruise (middle of the ocean day too, no less) while I was somewhere else, after I explicitly told him no allergens on the cruise. He forgot pad Thai had highly allergenic foods?! Good thing the peanuts, eggs, and shrimp didn't cause any reactions, but I was still pissed!

DD is 7 months and so far isn't super into solids--we're doing a few spoonfuls a day but otherwise breastfeeding is going strong, and I'm okay with that. Food before one is mainly for fun, right?

However, since we're not pushing solids a ton, I'm more unsure than ever about when to introduce the more common allergenic foods (strawberries, peanuts, egg whites, etc.). For what it's worth, no one in my family has a history of allergies.

I plan on asking our pediatrician, but I'm curious to know when (and even how!) you all introduced various allergens with your LOs.
