We waited until 6 months. The doctor felt strongly that we should wait, and I figured there was no real reason why we shouldn't, I felt no reason to hurry it up.

We started at 5 months 1 week. LO was not very interested in eating solids and we didn't push her. I offered her cereal and purees everyday and if she didn't want it, we would stop. She is 7 months now and has just recently started getting into eating solids.

Our ped told us at his four month appointment we could start introducing cereal if we want since he does get some formula, but to wait on anything else until closer to six months. She also advised us to stay away from rice cereal, apparently it can cause constipation in breast fed babies. She recommended oatmeal or barley. DS loves the oatmeal I have been giving him every night. He gets so excited when I put him in his chair and he sees the bowl.

i cheated, i gave him some oatmeal last weekend and he is 25 weeks, so a week away from turning 6 mos. i haven't given him any more since then and will wait until next week. i couldn't help it. i had bought all the cute feeding gear and he was staring at me eating my own oatmeal. it was totally spontaneous!

We started with DD at 4 months, but she really didn't take to it until 6 months.

We're waiting until 6 months with DS per our doctor's recommendation, but I do think he's been ready since 4 months. He's always grabbing for our food and smacking his lips when we're eating, lol!

Our daughter is 4 months too. We're planning on waiting until 6 months unless she starts indicating earlier that she's ready. So far she definitely watches me while I eat, but she doesn't try to grab any food from me. She is sleeping through the night as an exclusively formula fed baby. If that changes, then we also might try introducing solids before 6 months.

I started introducing around 5 months (LO is now 5.5 months). So far she's had sweet potatoes, avocados, bananas, rice cereal, & peas. She only has about 1/2 ounce, though, and only after nursing (she's EBF).

I started Mavrick on cereal at 3 months. He was always drinking and for my sanity i needed to give him food. Clearly I don't recommend going against the docs. For Sienna I will probably wait until 6 months for cereal.

we are waiting til 6 months. LO will be 4 months old in a week and 5 days and honestly, its only 2 more months til she gets to 6 months. I am anxious to start solids since she doesnt do very well with her bottle at daycare but I will wait the extra 2 months since its recommended

we waited until 6 months with both kids. honestly feeding just breastmilk/formula is so much easier! i would have started solids even later!

The newest research suggests that starting later increases the risk for food allergies, so there is "research" that has pros and cons either way.

C is 4 months, we are on day 5 of solids and she's doing really well. :) We're done apples and carrots so far. Do what you think is best. C was up to eating quite a bit of formula a day, so I thought it safe to try solids with her. She seems to be enjoying them.

We used a formula that was age specific, there was a newborn formula, up to 6 months, up to 9 months and 12 months and older.

We were advised that a baby of his size shouldn't drink more than 1 liter of formula in 24 hours. We noticed at around 5 months he was draining the bottles, literally drinking the bottles dry. We called our ped and were told we could start some solids then, because it wasn't advised to move up to the 6 month version until they were truly 6 months. So, that's why we introduced at 5 months.

eta: At the end of the day, the opinions and studies vary so widely, I don't really think any one opinion is the right one on this subject. There are so many factors.

We waited until 6 months ... he was EBF and happy and I just saw no point in it before then. But do what you think is right for your bambino if your doc is cool with it.

The last thing I read in the news was that studies showed babies shouldn't start solids until 6 months old. The risk of obescity increased for early solids eaters especially for formula fed babies. We started solids at 5.5 months because he showed a strong interest in them. Otherwise I would have waited until 6 months or later. I think you should do what you feel comfortable with either starting or waiting.

Abbey is going for her 4 month appt in 3 weeks! More shots :( but also, my pediatrician says we can slowly begin introducing solids. Just curious what other mommies think? Baby is exclusively formula fed and I do not subscribe to Dr. Sears method of parenting.

Thoughts?
