@regberadaisy: So this thread is old, but I thought is let you know I did pick up that set of silverware from Amazon and my son loooves it. He's really doing well with the fork and spoon. And the infant set is really small, so I don't think it's necessary. The child set is perfect for him.

We just introduced a spoon at 10 months. We gave her a beaba silicone spoon and she loves playing with it and putting the handle part in her mouth. She hasn't quite gotten the grasp of feeding herself but at least it's a start!

This is the progress set, so a smaller set and then a set for an older toddler/child. You can buy them separately, but I was going to get the whole thing since its cheaper this way and I'm not sure if he'll take to one size over another.

We did at about 10.5 months. She usually sees it more as a toy than a tool though. When I put food on it, it immediately goes flying. Sometimes she will hold the fork with one had and pick up the food with the other hand to eat. LOL. She does watch us use them though so I know it's processing.

Every time I try (because she snatches the spoon from me) she holds the spoon upside down and everything falls out...so I've stopped. But I guess the mess is part of learning and I should let her try it more (she's 13 months).

@littlek: we just started solids but I figured why not! I load it with mash for him and he takes it and shoves it in his mouth. Sometimes it ends up on the floor and he uses his hands. My dog is usually hoping it'll fall :)

@winniebee: Yes, I'm worried this will be an excellent item to send overboard. And since we have a chihuahua who circles the high chair, like a great white shark circling its prey, I'm somewhat worried about him being hit by cutlery.

@regberadaisy: We've been doing this lately, as well. He was showing serious interest in the fork, and has really picked up on it in the past couple of weeks. I was planning on ordering the Paul Revere set from Amazon, but just haven't gotten around to it Need to get on that!

My son wanted a spoon to hold when we started purees, so around 6 months, I gave him one to hold onto. By age 8 months, he was shoveling his food into his mouth on his own and I'd say he'd completely mastered utensils by a year.

Like for them to use? As early as 10 months I gave it to her. Probably around 11 months I would occasionally at the end of meals put food on it and let her feed herself. This past week (13 months) I am giving it to her at almost every meal to feed herself. I put food on it and let her feed herself.
