I started puffs around 7 months with my first but didn't allow him to have other grains until about 10 months. DD is only 5.5 months so obviously we haven't started grains.

HhmmM maybe around 8 months? We eat out more than I'd like to admit and bread is our savior when it comes to keeping her happy at restaurants!

@CakeLady: i tried a similar thing. I wanted to only give her veggies first and once she liked those THEN give her fruit. Except she didn't really like any vegetables. and I just wanted her to eat SOMETHING so fruit it was. My LO is a pear-a-holic.

@blackbird: Puffs are everything. I seriously credit them for having any time for: cooking, dishes, and folding laundry.

@CakeLady: Ha! Our LO eats EVERYTHING, except broccoli. She throws it on the floor or saves it until the very end.

We waited until 10 or 11 months. Our doctor said something like, "She will definitely like carbs, so try to focus on whole foods first." ... That really stuck with me. We still rarely give her wheat/gluten/processed foods.

7.5 months. I wanted her to work on her pincer grasp and most of what I was feeding her (produce) was too slimy for her to pick up when it was in little pieces. So I got some organic gerber puffs to try with her. I was nervous bc she is MSPI and I was afraid she'd be allergic to wheat, but she had no issues and she looooooves the puffs. Carb addict like her mama lol.

Sounds like it would be ok to give him a little bread if he's interested. Though I might try to get him into a few more fruits and veggies first.

We started with tiny amounts of wheat/gluten early (after 4 months). He started gnawing on bread at around 7/8 months.

Maybe 7/8 months? We started giving her puffs and she wanted slices of bread to gum on.

I don't think kids need bread necessarily (but it's so yummy!), but if you plan on consuming it around them....it's going to be impossible to keep it away from them.

Around 8 months. My DH is French, so bread is a part of daily life. We started with either bits of baguette (essentially white bread) or whole wheat or spelt toast.

DS is 7 months, and are doing a mix of purees and finger foods. He seems to have lost interest in purees and only wants to eat pear slices and steamed carrot sticks. Everything else he throws on the floor. He did try to eat a slice of bread that I was eating, but he hasn't had wheat yet.

When did you first offer bread or pasta? Are there particular brands/types that are better for a beginning eater? Does LO even need to eat bread or should I stick with fruits and veggies?
