Thanks everyone!

@rattles: sounds similar for sure! I think Lucy wouldn't even care if I stopped nursing, it's more me wanting to do it for her. I don't know why, but I feel guilty cutting sessions!

we're still at 3 times a day (morning, after her 1 nap, and night) at 15 months, but after our trip coming up next month, i'm going to try to drop to morning and night only. she was sick and any efforts to say no to her did not work. in a couple months, i might go to don't offer, don't refuse for the morning and night and see what happens. right now, she asks in the mid morning when she's tired, after her nap and before bedtime, so i'm sticking with my 3 times a day.

@californiadreams: L would nurse for 40 minutes in the morning. And would freak out if I tried to cut it short. Her bedtimes have been easy. She fights it a little now whereas she used to just go down, but overall she's asleep within 5-6 minutes of going in her crib.

@oliviaoblivia: i bet it does! I was actually getting stressed some mornings when DH would wake up before me and then LO wouldn't want to nurse by the time i got up, so i decided to let that session go if i am not awake for it. Bedtime though he does ask for it still when i am with him. How is L when you put her to bed?

@californiadreams: She asked Sunday so we nursed. I think she'd accept if I offered but she doesn't ask for it. As much as I miss it I like having the time back. It makes my mornings so much easier!

@oliviaoblivia: have you tried offering since saturday? or were just testing if she would ask. because that's what i mean by LO would probably wean too - if i stopped offering. At least i think, i don't want to test it just yet.

@oliviaoblivia: i feel like i could wean too if i wanted to, but i am not ready! DH puts him to bed once a week because i work late and never has a problem. and if i don't nurse first thing in the morning, he won't want it anymore. Congrats to you though!! I bet it is nice to have that freedom.

Just after 12 months, we weaned Xander off bottles at daycare and at the same time I dropped the middle of the day and evening feeds. Now at 13 months, I only nurse once in the morning. I still have a freezer stash though so I'm weaning him off breast milk slowly.

@californiadreams: I nursed her Sunday morning and we had a really sweet session. Then that night I had J put her to bed to see how she'd do. She went down easily. Then Monday morning I didn't offer and she didn't ask.
It's definitely harder on me than it is on her. I don't think she misses it too much. I've been making sure we still cuddle a lot. It's nice actually. It used to be that I'd come home, nurse for 40 minutes, rush to cook dinner, eat, bedtime. Now we spend her nursing time playing together. I'm really enjoying it.

Ha, Miss A is almost 18 months and she's just dropped her mid-morning session so we're down to just four nursing sessions during the day! Night time on the other hand, if she want "drinks" she will not be persuaded otherwise!

i went back to work at 12.5 months and he was nursing when i got home from work plus morning and night, plus i was pumping milk for his lunch until about 14.5 months. then he gradually dropped the after work session and i stopped pumping, so i guess from about 15 months he was down to morning and night, but sometimes i nurse a bit more on the weekends (like once in the afternoon, one of the days).

@oliviaoblivia: you weaned completely??! i had no idea! how did it go?

I dropped daytime nursing/pumping at 12 months. LO is currently coming up on 14 months and still nursing first thing in the morning and before bed most days. When we daytime weaned he switched to cows milk at daycare/with his grandmas so it was a pretty easy transition.

Let's be friends - I'm in the exact same situation! My L is 16 months, in the process of dropping her morning nap, and I'm pregnant and finding breastfeeding ever more painful. She nurses every morning and night, and I'd say that's it about half of the time. The other third to half she asks to nurse sometime in the middle of the day. I try to redirect for now, but if she insists, I cave. To end the nap time connection, I changed up her routine. For a couple of weeks I either nursed her and then did story and rocking before instead of having it be the last thing before nap time. Separating it seemed to help.

I am really trying to get there now (just shy of a year). We still have a good session at lunch though. LO will drink almond milk, but not very much, so I'm really worried about his calorie/nutrient intake.

Lucy is almost 16 months old and we currently nurse in the morning, after both naps, and before bed. We're hoping to start the transition to one nap soon, and I'm thinking about dropping our daytime sessions (I'm also pregnant and nursing is getting really uncomfortable!). My only hesitation is that with her MSPI, I want her to get all the nutrients she can (she won't drink alternative milks).

When did you cut out the daytime nursing sessions? How'd it go?
