My DS stopped napping at home at 2.5 on weekends, he still napped at daycare until he was a little over 3 everyday. Now he doesn't nap at all at nearly 3.5. BUT that is okay with us because it means he goes to bed at 7pm without any fuss. Before it would often be 9:30-10pm. It's so nice to have the evenings back to ourselves.

We had a tough time around that age but now at nearly four he still naps almost 7 days a week. Don't give up! Or purposely skip a day as a reset...

@kiddosc: I feel ya! At least 50% of my reasoning for naps is for my alone time! 😂

@Canoli: That's good to know that 2.5 isn't a totally crazy time to drop them! I keep feeling like it is so early, but maybe not. Hopefully my DS is one of those that naps until he's 4 since his sister won't! Haha

Around 2.5 for my first son and he just kept fighting us so we gave up. My second son is 2.5 and has been fighting us since he turned 2. Probably in the past month we have stopped trying because we also have a 4 month old and just don't have the energy to fight. He still needs it though because he is a whiny tantruming hot mess so we put him to bed earlier. He does nap at daycare everyday though.

@fussygal: these days - no, she'll play quietly with toys where she can see us, usually. But I tried to keep her in her room when she was younger

We only stopped because he started afternoon 4k. Even on days that he didn't sleep, he still spent naptime in his bed in his room. Sometimes that meant that he rolled around and chatted to himself for 2 hours. But the vast majority of the time, he actually slept. That recharge time was almost as important for me as it was for him.

@smocks: Thanks for responding! I feel pretty lucky that she hasn't figured out the climbing yet- haha!
Does your DD go to her bed or room for her self-imposed quiet time? Our DD will pay very quietly alone for a long time in the afternoon, but she always wants to do it in the living room near us. So maybe that is something that could work. Her night sleep is currently HORRENDOUS so maybe that would help, too.

I miss the easy(ish) sleeping days from a year ago!

Mine was done with naps at home around that age, maybe a little earlier. I'm surprised you can keep her in the crib still! Mine started launching herself over the side so she was in a big girl bed around age 2. I just let her do her thing - she usually has some self-imposed quiet time in the afternoon that helps recharge her batteries, but no actual sleeping. I try to get her to bed early those days.

She does still (usually) take a nap at daycare. But that's because everyone else is napping.

DD is only 2.5 but is fighting naps like a monster lately! I know that's pretty normal for this age, but it's been happening for over a month now. She screams and cries once she's put in her crib, sometimes for 20 minutes (or more). 90% of the time she passes out and will act crabby if she doesn't get her nap, so I'm pretty sure she still needs it, but I feel awful about this crying/screaming thing. I've been consistent and firm about making her take naps because I figured it was a phase that she'd grow out of and didn't want to backslide into bad habits, but this has been happening almost daily for a while now.

Should I drop her one and only nap this young?? I'm totally open to letting her have quiet time in her room/crib, but she doesn't respond well to that offer either. :bummed:
