I always wanted to BF for at least a year, we made it to 14m before she sort of decided to wean (we were down to just nighttime at that point). Since your LO is close to a year why not use a sippy cup rather than introducing the bottle; especially since our ped suggested DD be weaned from the bottle around 1 year.

I don't know if I will but I'm pretty determined to make it to a year. 2 months in right now and really believe I can make it to a year or more. Hopefully starting back at work won't mess it all up.

I never thought that I would still be BFing at a year. My son's birthday is in about 10 days and we still nurse first thing in the morning and just before bed. He gets formula for all other bottles since my stash is long gone.
I figured I would keep going when I realized that I could get rid of all the other feedings and pumping and still keep the 2 nursing sessions we have. We made that switch around 9 months. If I had to pump we would have stopped probably 2-3 months ago. These 2 sessions aren't that hard to maintain so I am sticking with them. We will probably stop them shortly after his first birthday though. He is starting to lose interest.

I think at 9 months? I was close to a year and she's always hated the bottle. We're at 14 months now and she's such a nursing addict I don't know how we'll wean.

I made small goals (3 months was my initial goal... when I hit 3 months, my new goal was 6 months... when I hit 6 months, I said as close to a year as possible would be great... I accidentally dried up at 7.5 months by taking sudafed and decided that was it) and that really helped to motivate me to continue. Otherwise I'm sure I would have quit. It would have been nice to make it to a year, especially since I was a SAHM, but I never enjoyed nursing and neither did Wagon Jr. I'm much happier as an exclusive pumper this time around. I actually feel more bonded to LMW, maybe because I'm not resenting her as much as I did WJ when he would go through growth spurts and need me every 2 hours? Or it could just be a second baby thing, or a girl thing. Not sure. Anyway, you gotta do what's right for you!

My original goal was to make it 6 months. DD is now 4.5 mo and I'm enjoying bfing, plus I'm a wahm, so it isn't difficult for me to continue, so I think I've decided to try and continue until 1 yr. The past 4.5 months have flown by, I think I can keep it up :)

I made it through a bad latch, bad advice from a bad pediatrician, some help from an LC and finally, figuring it out on my own by 2.5 months. At 3 months, I went back to work and had to figure out pumping and bf'ing and sending bottles to daycare. We're at 6 months now. We have a routine. It's going to be fouled up by adding in solids but I know I can manage it - we've been through so much already. I WANT to get to 12 months so I WILL. :)

I would still be breastfeeding if I could. I let DS completely dictate. I've worked full time since he was 7 weeks old, so I pumped during the day and nursed mornings, nights and weekends. When he started eating solids he had less interest in both breast and bottle. We did go through a stage where he took very little liquid during the day and nursed all night long. (That was fun, haha) But then he started sleeping through the night and my day pumps were pretty unproductive. So I stopped pumping during the work day but still offered him the breast. One of the last time I offered he laughed at me. He was just shy of 11 months old. I'm still lactating, though probably not enough for a feeding, but I could never get him to nurse enough to build up a supply that would be enough for him. I miss it, I would love to have breastfed to a year and beyond!

At three months we were doing fantastic and I just knew I would breastfeed for a year. At three and a half months my appendix ruptured and my supply tanked to nothing. It was so sudden that I had a very difficult time with not BFing anymore.

I knew at 3 months after our elimination diet that he couldn't handle regular formula and special formula is super expensive. I also had a control issue (i.e. I could control what I ate but I couldn't control formula). I knew then we would go until he was 2 years old.

I've made it three months, and I will agree it gets easier as they get older. I go to a BFing support group that has lots of moms with babies over 1 year. It's possible that your LO will wean himself before 1 year, but it's also possible that he will want to keep nursing well after 1 year. FWIW, we only have 4 bottles. We've never given more than 2 bottles in a day, when we left DS with my parents for a few hours.

I wanted to BF for a year minimum but I haven't set up that expectation in myself yet. I just don't want to work up to a goal that will end up disappointing me.

But right now it seems like nursing to a year is a given due to circumstance. I will be staying at home until he is a year at least, probably longer. Right now he hates bottles and will hardly take one! And now that he is feeding less urgently, nursing seems so much easier than bottle feeding. I hate pumping and keeping bottles cleaned and available.

Also we only have a small collection of bottles so we'd have some start-up costs.

Now I am wondering if a year will even be long enough! He really hates the bottle and I don't know how I will wean him!
