I'm not sure about risk because I never adhered to the SIDS safety guidelines. Both my little ones always have slept with blankets on them, around them, etc. Sometimes I even leave a burp cloth with DD because she clings to it and noms on a little in her sleep. As for stuffed animals, there's always been at least one in the bed but usually two. Right now, DD has a small knit bunny my mom made for her and the bear that makes womb sounds. I don't really use the bear for the sounds anymore, I just use it to pad that corner.

For DS, he has two pillows (small) in his crib, two stuffed animals, two soft books, a blanket to cover him with, his A+A blanket for cuddling, and then the dog that stays attached to the bed with music/nightlight function. Of course, he's nearly 18 months old and capable of climbing out of his crib. I think he'll be fine.

I just started putting a stuffed dog in her crib a little past her first birthday. She seems to enjoy having something in there to play with now. Nothing else, just one stuffed dog.

We let Chloe start sleeping with blankets and stuffed animals shortly after her first birthday, which was also during late fall.. so it was perfect for the winter months.

We still do not allow pillows in her bed, though.

My LO is only to months old, but I think it'll be a while for us. It seems like many parents become less concerned once they're not little tiny newborns anymore, but the risk of SIDS and suffocation actually is highest between 2 and 4 months. It's one thing I'm really careful (probably bordering on paranoid) about since my mom's little brother died in his crib at 4 months old.

We've had a couple of small stuffed animals in the corners of her cot since pretty early on (maybe 2 or 3 months) but she could never get to them, and I wasn't worried about them being a suffocation risk (they weren't things she could put over her face). She started sleeping with a lovey she could grab around 5 months and now at 13 months, she has about 8 stuffed animals in her cot but still no blankets or pillows.

Around 5 months an AA swaddle that was loose in the crib. Around 9-10 months the AA dream blanket. I never felt like it was dangerous b/c LO didn't move around much while sleeping until around 10 months.

When we moved him into his crib at 6 months we gave him a gentle giraffe sound machine (which is now his lovey) and stuffed animal a friend made him. At 9 or so months we added a small, light blanket (which he sometimes cuddles with, sometimes uses a pillow, and mostly kicks to the corner of the crib). No pillow yet, because A) he's still moves all over his crib at night and B) he often uses the giraffe as a pillow, and carries it around with him. We're not planning on giving him a proper blanket/pillow until we transition him into the toddler bed.

She had a blanket at around 10 months (she was standing and crawling proficiently). Now at 15 months she has a couple of stuffed animals in there too. She picks them all up and brings them to me when she's ready for bed! She loves them

LO is 11 months old and still sleeps with a sleep sack. I'm a little on the conservative side, so I doubt we'll do any blankets in the crib until this winter rolls around and he's closer to 16/18 months or so. No plans for pillows in his bed until we transition to a toddler bed. We do, however, let him sleep with a small stuffed animal for naps only...we started that around 9.5/10 months.

I let LO (5 mos) have a lovey for naps only. She's so into them and she loves rubbing them all over her face and she falls asleep so easily. I just run over and pull it away from her face if she pulls it up. I'm not too worried about it but I wouldn't want her to sleep with one over her face so I don't think I'd let her have it for bedtime for a long time, maybe when she's a year and a half?

LO has had a lovey since he was 5.5 months old, it is a relatively large blankie with a elephant head, it would cover his whole body. When he first started sleeping in his crib I used to be super paranoid and would literally stay up most nights watching the monitor. Even though he is mostly only interested in the elephant head, chews the ears and trunk, holding it, sometimes petting it, I was worried it would wrap around his head and he'd roll trapping himself. Thankfully that never happened and he is almost 9 months old now with great body control so I don't worry as much. I know it isn't recommended but I've put the blanket over my own face to test breathability and he really loves it...

At about 7.5 months we switched him from his sleep sack to a blanket, got a softer mattress, and gave him an angel care lovey to sleep with. However, we stopped using the blanket recently since all he did was kick it off. Still no sleep sack since he is warm enough in a footed sleeper pj. And we just got a bumper last week (he is 8.5 months now).

We did all those things to help him sleep better and his sleep has DRASTICALLY improved since making those changes. He went from 3 - 5 wakings per night to 0 - 1 (no sleep training).

I am pretty sure his SIDS risk is almost non-existent now since he almost reflexes lifts his head up high when he rolls over and when he does sleep on his tummy (something we can no longer control), his head is to the side and he moves around until he is comfortable - I assume he would consider blocked airways uncomfortable and move accordingly (which we have seen him do).

ETA: no pillows yet because it doesn't seem like he needs one, if i try to picture one in there, i feel like it would be uncomfortable to go under his head and position his neck that way....that's just what i imagine though and since he is sleeping fine now, we see no need to look for other things to change.

Also, the lovey we gave him doesn't seem to do much for him yet, he usually rolls away from it. But i am hoping he gets attached at some point so he can use it to fall asleep with since now he needs me or DH to stay with him until he falls asleep.

Stuffed animals.. not until she started liking them at around 12 months old.
DS is in a pnp and we don't have blankets, pillows or animals in there yet. He's 7 months old.
