For our first LO, it wasn't until she put herself on her belly, maybe around 10 months?

With LO2, she started sleeping on her belly super early, around 3 weeks or so. She hated being swaddled and sleeping on her back just wasn't happening, no matter what angle we tried. She had amazing head control from the start, and was picking her head up and turning it from side to side easily by three weeks, so I did my research and eventually decided I was comfortable with her sleeping on her belly. It worked a treat and she has been a brilliant sleeper since then.

I know the info on Safe Sleeping, and I know some people are appalled that I would let my infant sleep on her belly, but I've done my research and am comfortable with our decision. She is in our room though, which helps me feel more comfortable with it, I don't know that I would do it if she were in her room.

ETA: LO is 4 months old now and always flips herself to her belly as soon as I put her on her back anyway, so I think she'd be a belly sleeper by now regardless of which way I put her down!

We started at 8 weeks. Originally we were just going to do it for naps since I could watch him the whole time, but after we started naps he wouldn't sleep on his back or the rnp anymore so we went ahead and put him on his belly for nighttime too!

We allow LO one supervised nap on his tummy a day. He will sleep for 2.5 hours as opposed to 30 minutes on his back. So frustrating....He is 4 months now, and we've been doing this since he was little. Not sure why he can sleep on his back at night (relatively well) but not at all during the day. Once he can flip over himself, I am going to let him stomach sleep whenever he wants.

When she could roll both ways consistently. She rolled back to belly first, and then would freak out in her crib when she couldn't get back over. We used rolled up blankets to keep her from rolling over until she learned to roll back a couple weeks later. At 16 months, she still sleeps on her belly most of the night.

Early like 2-3 weeks he slept so much better and both grandmas were totally for it and had raised us that way. I also read the sids research and it's not that scary. We told our dr at an appt and all she said was I have to tell you that it increases the sids risk but do whatever you have to so that you all get sleep.

8 weeks. I was heavily conflicted about it, but his reflux was so bad and we had a couple of scary incidents of him choking on it. It made a world of difference, but only for his comfort with the reflux. I wouldn't have switched him until he was able to put himself into that position himself.

I tried to get her to sleep on her belly when we were desperate during 6 mo sleep regression. It didn't work. Now at 8 months she sleeps in her side, but I wouldn't move her if she rolled to her belly to sleep (and wouldn't have earlier as long as she did it herself). I actually have a pediatrician friend who let her daughter sleep in her belly from birth. I don't think I would have been comfortable doing that until mine had good head control, but her daughter slept like a champ.

She just started rolling onto her belly at night this past week (she's 6 months). I'm not about to wake her up to flip her over! She's been sleeping on her side for several weeks, though, and it still seems to be her preferred position. I read that SIDS research shows a higher risk for babies who are put down on their stomachs but not for those who can get there on their own, so I lay her on her back but am trying not to stress when she does her own thing afterward.

I unswaddled her around 5 months cause she was starting to roll. She started sleeping on her tummy around that time. The first few times I walked in and saw her on her tummy I Panicked and flipped her over, but I learned to relax. At 10 months she's all over the place in her crib but usually sleeps on tummy.

I am in the minority on this. I put him on his belly for naps at three weeks, because he could already turn his head from side to side. He definitely sleeps better and it seems to help his gassiness.

I waited much longer with my first. But I read all the research on SIDS and I think the real risk is overstated.

Around 3 months. My mom suggested trying to lay him down like that, and it was like magic - he fell asleep right away, and slept for hours. I was nervous about if for a few nights, but he started rolling himself a few weeks later so that ended the debate.
