I read to him as a newborn, but we started board books at 3 months, I think. Simon immediately fell in love. Now at 11 months, he'll sit and flip through books himself, as well as bring specific books over to me or my husband to read to/with him. Once they're mobile, it can get more challenging. I adapted by reading LO really short board books and only one at a time (we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar over and over and over...). Eventually we built up his stamina for sitting and paying attention and now, at 2.5 years, I can read him text-heavy picture books and even chapter books and he sits still and pays attention. It was kind of an endurance sport for me, though! </p> <p>Introducing new books was sometimes hard between the 6 mos-1 year period and a little after, so instead of trying to read them immediately, I'd talk about the cover picture for a while and maybe look at the first page and then put it down if he was losing interest. The next time we'd try a few more pages and then the next time we'd read the whole thing. In the beginning it was the bright cloth books that she could touch or board books that just had big bright photos (she used to love this board book of animals). Now at almost 10 months she loves when I read to her and make the voices.
