I recommend doing it when you start wondering if you should or not. My oldest fell out of his crib (head first, of course) once before we lowered it. Luckily his room had really soft carpet with really good cushion so he just got scared. We lowered it right away then. She was 8 months and i saw her dangling out of her crib on the video monitor (she couldn't even pull to stand yet - still don't know how she did that!) I bolted in but couldn't catch her before she fell head first out of the crib :( luckily she was okay but I kicked myself for not doing it sooner ! We lowered it the last time a year ago. at 18 months. We lowered LO1's crib around 7 months old because we moved and it just made sense. LO2 is 8 months old and we still have hers the highest it can go. She can sit up, but can't push herself up to the sitting position, which means she can't pull herself up yet. I think we should probably lower it soon though because I don't want to find out she *can* do these things in the middle of the night.
