We're kind of there (7 months) solely because the third nap is always at a bad time. First nap is around 9, second nap is between 1 and 2-ish and then we pick her up around 5pm lately, so then she's too excited to see us and since bedtime is at 730, a nap doesn't happen. Her two naps are starting to get longer, though, so it's going ok. When it happens, the third nap is about 20 min long.

Around eight months, but it took a month to have strictly two naps. She switched between 2 & 3 for a looooong time.

At six months we went to a 234 schedule. The third nap had always been a fight and it just wasn't worth it anymore. Doing just two naps works for us largely because DD is a good napper, so both her morning and afternoon nap are typically 1.5 to 2 hours long. If she were a short napper we'd still need a third nap.

Between 8-9 months. We were stuck in the 2-3 nap purgatory for a long time, probably since around 6 months. Her wake time has finally lengthened to the point where even if her naps suck, she still only needs two. It's awesome!

Ours was a natural transition around 8 months. Unfortunately he already seems to be going to 1! Hopefully it's just daylight savings or teething.

Try to start the first nap a little later. Then if lo still needs a 30 minute nap at 4:30 or so...that's fine too.

around 7.5 months she stopped needing that 3rd nap and dropped it on her own. we also moved to a 2-3-3/4ish routine that is serving us well! her 2 naps got longer to accommodate the 3rd nap which was a cat nap.

I think around 7.5/8 months? We started doing a 2-3-4 schedule and it eventually became naps at 9 and at 2 (roughly a 3-4-3 schedule).

@wonderstruck: we did around that age; he just stopped taking his third nap no matter when of what I tried. He was happy with two! We did a 2 3 4 schedule thy eventually evolved into 3 3 4. It was awesome for a while until he now went to one nap early ;)

When did your LO move from 3 naps to 2, and did you have a normal time/length for them?

My 6 month old is starting to be pretty difficult to get down for naps, and I'm starting to think about trying to transition him from 3 naps to 2, but am not sure if it's too early for that. It used to be that he'd wake up at 7 and nap from about 9-10, 12-2, and 4-5, then bedtime around 7:30 or 8:00. Lately his first nap has been so incredibly short that he gets crabby again pretty quickly, but isn't ready to go down for another nap, so I'm getting ready to try out some different nap schedules.
