@Eko: about a week... The results were amazing! She's 6 months now and we took her off the meds 3 weeks ago and she's doing great.

@Eko: DS started on Prilosec around 10 weeks, I think? Anyway, his main symptoms were pain/fussiness (back arching, etc.) during and after feedings. Feedings were a serious battle! Those symptoms completely disappeared with the proper dosage of Prilosec. He was never a great sleeper early on, so I didn't notice any correlation between the Prilosec use and sleep.

It sounds like the fussiness (as long as it's not related to eating), increased appetite, and poor sleeping may be due to a growth spurt/wonder week. I think there's a wonder week right around 8 weeks? Right around my son's 8-week wonder week (which for him was closer to 7 weeks bc they go by due date & he was 8 days late), there was a day where I literally nursed him for 5 or 6 hours total throughout the course of the day! It was absolutely miserable - he was either nursing, fussing, or fighting sleep. (It was Halloween which is why I remember so vividly!) Good luck getting through it - things will start getting better soon! :goodluck:

@twodoghouse: Thanks! Maybe giving it more time is the best. He is already on the similac alimentum and has his two month appointment in a week so I may wait until then to see if things improve.

@Eko: I'd give it a little bit more time, try to get beyond his growth spurt, then re-evaluate to see if it's working. My kids' never experienced gassiness as a side effect of reflux, so I can't speak to that much. It's possible there's another issue going on - sensitivity to dairy, or something else you're eating (if he's on breastmilk). I think that can start off with really similar symptoms to reflux in the beginning.

@twodoghouse: We haven't seen a specialist yet and Prilosec is the first medication we have tried. The crying while eating, back arching has stopped, so I think that it has helped in some ways. But it seems as if he is gassier and that is giving him some discomfort. He will be in a deep sleep and suddenly just wake up crying in pain. Maybe he is hungrier But he eats 3-4 oz. every 1-3 hours and eating more seems like a lot to me, but idk.

@Eko: For us, there was a distinct difference in that pre-Prilosec they would be up at night writhing, twisting around and screaming in pain, not able to settle down, the second we'd lay them down flat in their cribs they'd start crying. With Prilosec that all disappeared. They were older, though, (almost a year) so I had more of a baseline of what was normal. Did you try any other reflux meds prior to Prilosec? I have read conflicting info about Prilosec working on babies that young. When my LOs were that young, they were on Zantac (DD) and Prevacid (DS). DS continued to spit up a lot on Prevacid, but it was much less painful (no screaming after eating, back arching, etc.). The increase in your LO's appetite could be the Prilosec working... Maybe he's not having pain while eating now and wants to eat more? Or that and the fussiness could be related to a growth spurt, like you said. I'd give the meds some more time. Are you working with a GI or regular ped? I wish we'd started with our GI sooner!

@twodoghouse: @jape14: how did you know Prilosec was working if LO was going through a growth spurt? DS is 8 weeks and since he's been on it for 5 days he no longer is spitting up or vomiting not crying when eating. But he's still really fussy, gassy, has an increased appetite, and his sleep is suddenly terrible. He was really good the first couple days on Prilosec but now it's terrible in a different way. I can't tell if the medicine isn't working as well as it should.

It took about 2-3 days? It was seriously life-changing when it started working! I hope it works for you too!

It took a couple days - maybe 2-3 before we noticed a difference. I hope Prilosec works for you! I really credit the switch to Prilosec with my LOs ability to eat solid foods and get more than 2 hours of sleep at a time!

Just like the title says

DS just started on Prilosec today. Wondering if it will take a while or if I could see immediate results.
